Summary

Containers are revolutionizing the way we build, ship, and run our applications. But like all good things, they come with their own set of challenges. This is where Kubernetes enters the scene.

Kubernetes helps you deploy and manage containerized applications at scale. It also abstracts the many different underlying cloud platforms so that you don't need to care whether you're deploying on Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, or your own on-premises datacenter. With Kubernetes, you can develop your applications on your laptop, deploy to your chosen cloud platform, migrate to a different cloud platform, and even migrate to your private cloud at your on-premises datacenter.

This audio version of The Kubernetes Book starts from the beginning and covers everything you need to know to be proficient with Kubernetes. It even includes two sections dedicated to threat-modeling Kubernetes and real-world security.

You'll learn:

  • Kubernetes cluster architecture
  • How to build Kubernetes Clusters
  • How to deploy and manage applications on Kubernetes
  • How to secure Kubernetes
  • The meaning of terms like cloud-native, microservices, desired state, containerized, and more...

Finally a technical book for Audible

This book was reworded to add value as an Audible book. Not that I've listened to a lot of technical books from Audible...maybe 10 books. All of the other technical books I've listened to regurgitate word-for-word what the author wrote. It becomes pretty annoying when the narrator reads the hash of a container verbatim.

Nigel Poulton made this book a verbal learning tool. AND he definitely knows his subject matter.

The book was just deep enough to provide a newbie with pieces of the K8s technology to form a solid foundation to work from.

Works surprisingly well

I didn't think these kinds of technical books would work in this format (audio) but the writer is a really good talker and changes enough things from the book to work better in an audio book. You probably would still want a real book if you wanted to better follow along and practice yourself, but if you go into it just wanting to learn the architecture of the system and learn the different concepts then it is great. From knowing almost nothing about K8 I now know most of the concepts, have an idea about how one would design and set up a project in it and most importantly are familiar with the keywords needed of to search for for more information and learn more when I need it.

Great k8s resource on the go

This book is packed with useful information and well thought out to be presented as an audiobook. Highly recommend if you want to learn more about this exciting tech.

Solid Kubernetes learning even for non-technical f

Even the most technical person gets tired when listening to command lines on an audio book, but Nigel has enough good sense not to do very much of this. I work with Kubernetes and I really liked the audio book.

I sent this to a business partner who is non-technical and he understood why and how Kubernetes is so valuable.

So Nigel got the right mix. Tech books can't possibly keep up with the latest and greatest new features, so don't read/listen for that stuff. Take a mental note when he is discussing a shortcoming or problematic area and do a Google search on the issue. You will find new ideas and solutions are already in the works. The big picture architecture Nigel is describing is still valid.

Most well made technical audio book.

Most well made technical audio book I have found, and I have been searching a bit as this is my desired format for learning on the go.

As good as it could possibly be

This is a good introduction to k8s, but the audiobook format just isn't a good one for technical subjects and there's so much missing for a working knowledge of the subject. Narration is great, though.

Great audio rendition of a technical subject

Nigel Poulton has great energy and truly embodies the essence of teaching. His expertise in the field and extensive experience in container technologies makes him a trustworthy source. This was such a fun and easy audiobook to listen to. I highly suggest it to anyone interested in learning on the go.

Great audio adaptation

I was reading the eBook version but needed a way to let the information sink in on the go so I gave the audiobook a try and was not disappointed. Nigel does a great job of distilling the technical bits like going over yaml files to better fit an audiobook experience.

Good Overview Without Being Too Technical

It was a good overview without being so technically dense that it couldn't be listened to while driving or working. I feel as though I've gained an increased understand of Kubernetes as a beginner to the platform. Would recommend for anyone getting started.

This is first audio tech book that was pleasant to listen to. I learned a bunch and have re listened chapters a couple times.
