Critic reviews

"Dark, gloomy and often sinister.... An intelligent and convincing thriller with fleshed-out characters you want to meet again." ( Daily Mail)

Always creates the place ,the atmosphere , and the people have character and substance .A plot as hard to untangle as knotted thread and characters you would not like to share a confined space with

Good grief!

Too many characters with similar sounding names,
Not one is remotely likeable and none has anything that makes me remember them – but making the story very confusing …... all a bit ''nowt nor summat''.

I was going to give a second star purely and simply because I did persevere and finish the book, however, I think that was more because I had no idea what the heck was going on, and in writing this review I am reminded of the weak writing and poor plot!

Initially I got the impression that the characters were all in their dotage and living in a sort of 'Italian sheltered housing scheme', but part way through one of the women gave the ages of her children, and the age when she had her eldest – it turned out she was 52yrs!!
There was far too much straying between different partners, totally nasty and illogical actions, unconnected assumptions …..... Oh goodness I cannot go on!

Having heard the nasty reputation of Eastenders, I would suggest that this is like a version of Italian Eastenders.

Poor Saul Reichlin did a very good job considering the material.

Like wading through treacle

I love an audiobooks but this was a struggle to finish.
Characters were dull, and the plot was thin. not even the narrator seemed invested.
