Editor reviews

The Kill List is written by crime fiction extraordinaire Frederick Forsyth and this unabridged crime thriller audiobook edition is narrated by talented American actor John Chancer. America has a list of the most dangerous men and women in the planet. It becomes the role of a teenage hacking genius to uncover the identity of the most wanted person on that list, who is actively and ingloriously killing in the name of religion. Listeners are utterly engaged throughout, as the intricate story takes them across America, Europe and the United Kingdom in a bid to uncover this highly dangerous man. Available now from Audible.

Summary

The Kill List: a top-secret catalogue of names held at the highest level of the US government. On it, those men and women who would threaten the world's security. And at the top of it, The Preacher, a radical Islamic cleric whose sermons inspire his followers to kill high-profile Western targets in the name of God.

As the bodies begin to pile up in America, Great Britain and across Europe, the message goes out: discover this man's identity, locate him and take him out. Tasked with what seems like an impossible job is an ex-US marine who has risen through the ranks to become one of America's most effective intelligence chiefs.

Now known only as The Tracker, he must gather what scant evidence there is, collate it and unmask The Preacher if he is to prevent the next spate of violent deaths. Aided only by a brilliant teenaged hacker, he must throw out the bait and see whether his deadly target can be drawn from his lair.

Excellent but a little slow in parts

This was a typical excellent Forsyth novel. Well researched and fun. It was just a little slow in parts.

not great

Not one of his best, and the accents from the narrator are not great either

Heard it all before

Everything in this story has been a) done before, b) better, c) by Frederick Forsyth himself. I bet he wrote this book on a tablet - half of it could have been written by predictive text.

Very disappointing book, poorly narrated

Really disappointed, the storyline is excellent but there’s way too much unnecessary detail. To add to this the narration is very poor. Think Dick van Dyke in Mary Poppins for the English accents, and then add a Welsh accent that sounds like an Indian waiter. Not recommended

A good listen from Freddy

Narrator pleasant but not able to switch characters convincingly, will listen again though, easy listening.

not bad - but not one of his best

A pretty good story - but the ending is very rushed - as though he had to get it finished in a hurry. The performance is well read - but some of the British accents could do with more work. Enjoyable nonetheless.

Not Forsyth at his best

FF really is a first rate author. Unfortunately this is not his best work. It was entertaining but not gripping. The narration was fine but the British accents were shocking. The Welsh in particular was hilarious. If you can't pull it off, probably better not to attempt it.

Good story.

Well narrated, however, maybe don't attempt accents again especially Welsh, sounded more like someone from India. Great story and not to ever complicated.

Bristling terrorism thriller

Forsyth brings us a fast paced and well researched thriller that feels extremely pertinent due to recent events. I got through this in just two sittings, it worked really well as an audiobook and felt very visual, I’ve no doubt will be a on the big screen soon. Great narration too.
