Summary

The latest novel in the Will Trent series from number one best-selling author Karin Slaughter.

A body is discovered in an empty Atlanta warehouse. It's the body of an ex-cop, and from the moment Special Agent Will Trent walks in he knows this could be the most devastating case of his career. Bloody footprints leading away from the scene reveal that another victim - a woman - has left the scene and vanished into thin air. And, worst of all, the warehouse belongs to the city's biggest, most politically connected, most high-profile athlete - a local hero protected by the world's most expensive lawyers. A local hero Will has spent the last six months investigating on a brutal rape charge.

But for Will - and for Dr. Sara Linton, the GBI's newest medical examiner - the case is about to get even worse. Because an unexpected discovery at the scene reveals a personal link to Will's troubled past.

The consequences will wreak havoc on his life and the lives of those he loves, those he works with, and those he pursues. But Sara's scene-of-the-crime diagnosis is that they have only a few hours to find the missing woman before she bleeds out....

Karin Slaughter back to her best!

Where does The Kept Woman rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

in the Top 50

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Kept Woman?

Don't want to give the plot away!

What about Jennifer Woodward’s performance did you like?

Love the accent and her ability to betray multiple characters

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

yes

Any additional comments?

I listened to all her books and this is the second best after "Pretty Girls"

Thank goodness it's over

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would only recommend this to someone who is heavily into police jargon and the lives of people connected to US police procedures. There was probably a story there somewhere but it got lost in all the detail.

Has The Kept Woman put you off other books in this genre?

Absolutely. Will avoid in future. Was unnecessarily long-winded with too many diversions as if the author had set a target for the number of words for the novel.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

She tried valiantly to give each character a distinct audio personality but there were just too many characters.

Did The Kept Woman inspire you to do anything?

Finish it as quickly as possible. I was hoping until the end that a proper story would emerge. I have given the book 3 stars overall as I did succeed in finishing it despite many times feeling that I should just give up and move on to something more interesting.

Any additional comments?

Note to self: no more books by Karin Slaughter

Good

The voice actor was a bit annoying to start off with but I got used to it after a short while.
Enjoyed the book a lot, the big event at the end was a bit much but otherwise really liked the build-up and character building.

Welcome back Jennifer

The plot is slightly predictable but the very welcome return of an excellent narrator more than makes up for that. Loved every second of it

What's happening

Is there anything you would change about this book?

What is happening to Will Trent and all the other characters in this book? If I had this group of ill fitting detective's in my squad I wouldn't bother trying to solve crimes, I would just sign everyone in to the local mental facility for a check up. Whinny, moaning, complaining, are they trying to solve a murder or wallow in their despair, this is suppose to be a work of fiction, not real life.

Would you ever listen to anything by Karin Slaughter again?

Yes but not this character nor narrator

What didn’t you like about Jennifer Woodward’s performance?

As for the narrator, she reads well but her voices especially the male again come over weak, reflecting the rest of the book.

Did The Kept Woman inspire you to do anything?

Yes return the book

Tainted Love

Karin Slaughter has kept this Grant County series going for a long time, and usually that can begin to become 'samey'; but this instalment was great.

Will is trying to get on with his life and seems to be close to perfection with Sara, but his troubled wife Angie is forever on the outskirts ruining any chance of happiness the couple could hope for. A shady cop and a battered wife have a connection closer to Angie than anyone would believe. You'll enjoy it.

Keeps you on your toes

Any additional comments?

This is the first Will Trent I have listened to and I will definitely be looking out for more in this series, as I really enjoyed it.

With all the twist and turns it is well worth the second listen you will need. The characters are very down to earth and not the super hero's some authors make there special agents into.

You don't need to have read the other books to be able to follow along but it is obviously the love/ hate relationship between Will, Sara and Angie is part of the back story to each of the characters.

Sarah is such a bore

Sarah needs to suck it up if she insists on heading in this path. Ange is sinister. I want to see how much more distractive she can get.
