Noah needs to ensure that the pub he has opened in Fall River is a success as it is his opportunity to overcome the mistakes he has made in the past. He has faced numerous challenges which includes the multiple visits from inspectors which haven’t made it easy. While driving through a storm he nearly hits Hailey and after his vehicle is damaged they find themselves spending the night stranded in his truck.

Hailey is a food inspector who is going through a challenging time at work. She has come to town for an inspection but her damaged vehicle has her staying. She wants to show her appreciation to Noah and his brother for their help so she begins working at the pub however not only are they dealing with the people who don’t want him to succeed but how the last person he will want helping him is Hailey who works in a career he despises.

The romance between them is heartfelt, the suspense continues to escalate as they work together to uncover the truth, and their shared dog is adorable. Amanda Stribling brings out the conflict that Hailey is experiencing while Tor Thom allows you to feel both the frustration that Noah is experiencing as well as the depth of his feelings for Hailey.

If there’s something that could go wrong, it will go wrong for this reluctant guy. A funny lite storyline that will have you wanting more. A great performance.

This is the first book in the Fall River series, a small-town romance. Noah and Hailey’s story is entertaining, filled with intrigue, secrets, drama, slow burn, and twists and turns. It’s a great enemies-to-lovers romance. The characters are interesting, and the storyline is intriguing. Amanda Stribling and Tor Thom deliver an excellent narration, bringing these characters and their story to life. I enjoyed it. I’m looking forward to more books in the series.

G.K. Brady welcomes you to Falls River with a small-town romance that captivates your attention and tugs at your heartstrings throughout. This first book of the series is Noah Hunnicutt and Hailey Bailey’s story, and the two meet under chance circumstances, or rather accidentally. Both were traveling on a desolate mountain road during a blizzard where they were both stranded, and a dog rescue turned into a night of survival. His brother came to their rescue the next day and got them to safety and even found a place for Hailey to stay while her car got fixed. Noah is getting his new business, a bar/restaurant, off the ground, and it is important that it is a successful venture. He has been careless in his past with his finances, and he wants to prove not only to himself that he could do it but to his father and the townsfolk who have judged him. He doesn’t have time for relationships, but he feels a connection with Hailey, and the feeling is mutual, except she will be leaving, was only in town for her job, an inspector for the state board of health. It is not her dream job, just a stepping stone so she could save and hopefully open a bookstore one day. It did not take long for Hailey to fall in love with small-town living and how friendly the people were, except for a few, mainly Noah’s exes and a business rival. Then her boss pulls a fast one on her, adding another inspector to work with her, but it turns out he is not working with her, but has his own agenda, and having her work for him is part of it. It was great watching Noah and Hailey’s relationship build, but she was holding back a big secret, her occupation, and that winds up hurting what they were building. His restaurant was wronged, and she knew it and needed to make things right, for him and for them, if possible. This wonderfully written and plotted story has multiple layers and a perfect balance of drama, angst, some mystery and suspense, heartwarming moments, lots of witty dialogue and banter, heartfelt emotions, and a slow-burn, but so worth the wait, romance. The world-building, character growth and development are great, and so are some of the side/secondary characters. G.K. Brady, thank you for this fabulous story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧Amanda Stribling and Tor Thom did a fantastic job voicing the characters, giving each a voice that was fitting and believable. Both embodied their characters completely, grasping every aspect of their personalities and were naturals in their roles. Stribling’s take on Hailey was perfection, from her wit to her insecurities to her strength and determination. Thom was equally impressive as Noah, perfectly showcasing his personality and demeanor. They were fabulous performing the roles of all the side/secondary characters, giving each their own unique voice, making it easy to follow along and tell who was who. Their expressive delivery conveyed all the characters’ emotions, making you feel them all, and they were amazing at handling the back-and-forth dialogue and witty banter too. It is a pleasure listening to these two perform, a captivating performance that is entertaining and keeps you hooked to the story.

The Keeper is the first book in the Fall River series, but it can be read as a stand alone. It is very loosely connected to G.K. Brady’s Guarding the Crease in The Playmaker’s series in that Noah and Wyatt are cousins, but the main characters of this book meet for the first time in The Keeper so The Keeper is entirely a stand alone. This new series seems to be focused on residents of the small town of Fall River. I appreciated that it was a slow burn story with a small element of suspense. The complexity made the book more interesting to me.

I listened to the audio version and I’m sure that I enjoyed the story more because I listened to it. The story is performed in duet format by Tor Thom and Amanda Stribling, who are both very talented and experienced narrators. The duet format has all female dialogue spoken by Amanda Stribling with all male dialogue by Tor Thom. The remaining content alternates between the two narrators based on perspective.

I received a copy of this audiobook at my request, and the opinions here are my own.
