Summary
An assassin haunted by his past. Two young refugees out of their depth and in need of his special talents.
John Milton is no stranger to the world's seedy underbelly. But when the former British secret service agent comes up against a ruthless human trafficking ring, he'll have to fight harder than ever to conquer the evil in his path.
After Milton meets a refugee who lost a sister to people smugglers, he travels through war-torn Libya and the murkiest parts of Italy and France to get the girl back. As enemies watch his every move, Milton confronts a group of Albanian pimps and smugglers so dangerous, they could easily make this mission his last.

The Jungle..
A continuation of the excellent John Milton Series, and this instalment sees Milton pitting himself against people smugglers and vice rings linked to immigrants in and around the infamous 'Jungle' in Calais.
After inadvertently helping a young asylum seeker, he feels compelled to help the young man find how sister who was smuggled into the UK and forced to work as a prostitute. Milton traces the route the two took, and finds himself moving from Libya to Italy and across Europe in an attempt to find out who has the young woman, and attempt to get her back.
An enjoyable adventure, though maybe not quite as good as previous books.
Very well narrated by David Thorpe once again.

Oh how I wish this were true.
Mark Dawson has a really really good way of storytelling, and this story featuring John Milton is one of the best that I have read because it was simple, but very moving. I really do wish that this was not a novel but actual fact.
If this is your first excursion with John Milton, it shouldn't be. Read the others first but definitely come to this one - it's very enjoyable.

Another fab Milton book
Would you consider the audio edition of The Jungle to be better than the print version?
Love the narrator, so it's a close call.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Milton obviously, makes Reacher look like an amateur
What does David Thorpe bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
He makes Milton sound the way you would want him to sound
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Not really

Not Up To Some of the Others In the Series
I have listened to all the John Milton books. Narration is superb. Some of the books are too (Sward of God and Salvation Row for example) others are just ok (The Cleaner, St. Death, Ghosts). This is one that is just ok. There isn't much time spent on developing Milton, he doesn't gain any depth and we don't learn anything new about him. The supporting characters are weak or shallow. The plot is ridiculousness. I don't want to give away the story but Milton doesn't need to traipses around the globe to find the thugs. There isn't much action either. Milton comes across as not very bright which I found to be the case in some of the other novels. There is so much potential with the story line and character but it is squandered. Even as a Milton fan, I would skip this one.

John Milton is back!
This novel is #9 in the John Milton series by British novelist Mark Dawson. In The Jungle the former British covert agent continues to deal with his twin demons of past unnecessary killings and addiction to alcohol. He deals with the demons by helping others in need and striving to live the AA steps. All of Mark Dawson's books in the John Milton series, the Beatrix Rose series, and the the new Isabella rose series are in my Audible library.
The Jungle was released in Kindle and print editions three months prior to the release in Audible format, so I had already read the book prior to the Audible release this week. Still listening to the novel was very worthwhile.
This book is about human trafficking as Milton helps reunite a man with his sister who was sold to members of an Albanian crime mob to become a prostitute in London. Of course Milton's intent is not only to recover the young woman but also to take down the mob by killing its leaders. As with all of Mark Dawson's books The Jungle includes intense suspense. I recommend this book, this series, and all of Mark Dawson's books to those who like espionage thrillers and suspense thrillers. I am not a big fan of narrator David Thorpe but he is better than adequate. Mark Deakins and Napoleon Ryan narrate others of Mark Dawson's novels and they do a superb job.

Another Hit by Mark Dawson
I've read several books by this author and this is by far one of his best. The tension grabs the reader at the beginning and doesn't let go. The narrator is great at delivering believable accents.
The story of human trafficking is all too real - the author's knowledge of the pain it causes come through on every page.
I will be listening to this one again!

Great story and great narration..
Good story of people trafficking by the Albanians. But, as usual, John Milton took care of business, along with his friend Alex Hicks. This has been the 9th book about the ex-Group Fifteen agent John Milton who grew tired of being ordered to kill people and started helping people instead. He still kills people but they are the scum-of-the-earth, so they deserved it!
No romance and the F-bomb was used 5 times.
As for the narration: David Thorpe was great, as always.

Redemption Is Not Easy
Always enjoy the John Milton novels. The narrator is one of the best as he does numerous characters. John is on a journey for redemption trying to make up for the years of being a government assassin.
