Summary

The international best-selling author is back with a pause resisting tale of the origins of the peaceful warrior

In the heart of 19th century Tsarist Russia an orphaned boy born of both Jewish and Cossack blood desperately seeks to find a place in a dangerous world. Sergei Ivanov’s (Socrates') journey from a military academy to America is a spellbinding and tragic odyssey of courage and love. This riveting novel reveals how a boy became a man, how a man became a warrior, and how a warrior discovered peace. From his birth, this boy - Sergei Ivanov - is destined to become the peaceful warrior and sage who changed the life of Dan Millman and millions of readers and listeners worldwide.

Fills in some blanks

Very enjoyable story, easy to listen to. No great spiritual insights as such, but fills in some of the blanks from the Peaceful Warrior book very nicely.

Aweful

Not at all what I expected from Dan Millman. Surprising violence that adds nothing to the story.
Writes about a time & culture he knows little about. One wasted credit

A Great Prequel to Way of the Peaceful Warrior

This should be a movie, the plot is very good. it's much MUCH darker than Dan's other novels which I actually enjoyed. We see Socrates grow up, very interesting seeing him grow and losing his ego. Not many spiritual lessons here but there is a few which I'm glad was there as it made it feel like Way of the Peaceful Warrior. I won't forget this amazing book.

Brilliant

Really enjoyed this book, listened to the whole book in one day. It filled in the gaps and now I understand Dan Millmans connection to Socrates. Brilliantly written and beautifully read.
