THE INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLER

The stunning advances that have transformed human experience in recent centuries are no accident of history—they are the result of universal and timeless forces, operating since the dawn of our species. Drawing on a lifetime's scientific investigation, Oded Galor's ground-breaking new vision identifies these keys to human progress, overturning a host of long-held assumptions and revealing the deeper causes that have shaped the journey of humanity:

Education rather than industrialisation

Family size and gender equality as much as inventions and technology

Geography and diversity rather than wars, disease and famine

Masterful

Galor's mastery of both technical detail and narrative is on full display, but the book is a bit out of date on the deep past. The narrator has a rather condescending tone.

Delayed Gratification

Who would have thought that the plough would lead to a division of labour along gender lines and that agriculture, as a form of delayed gratification, would help develop a future- orientated mindset? These are just some of the ideas put forward in this compelling but controversial analysis of human evolution.

The observations are grounded with empirical evidence but will still divide some readers, particularly those that could be described as geographical determinism and balanced diversity.

Although the narrator is fine, this feels very much like a book to be read rather than listened to. It requires pause for reflection.

long busted ideas for the human evolution

many of the ideas presented have been challenged and changed from science. the author is only giving us his opinions without any solid arguments.

'industrial revolution was great for farmers. it's wrong of us to believe they were miserable leaving their homes.'really?!!! people being forced to move and accept shitty work conditions, it's their happy choice ?!!!

but the voice is calm enough to put me to sleep 😴
so at least it's serving some use.
