Summary

An isolated community...a web of secrets...a mysterious death.

When a body washes up on the shores of Brownsea Island, DCI Lesley Clarke initially suspects suicide. But as she gets closer to the island's close-knit community, she starts to suspect foul play.

Why did the victim argue with her closest friend days before her death? What secrets is the victim's manager keeping? And can Lesley get to the bottom of the mystery before someone else dies?

The Island Murders is a tense, gripping crime novel perfect for anyone who's imagined living in a coastal idyll and wondered if it's really all it seems.

another good strong story in this excellent series

I'm really enjoying this detective series. refreshingly different from the norm. the reader is very good at voices and that really helps to pull you in to the characters

Superb series

I’m a big fan of Rachel McLean and her work and am happy to recommend Rachel’s Dorset series. Jan Cramer pulls you into the story and guides through each chapter as if you were a character yourself. If you love a good murder mystery then this series is for you.

Good story but not good narration

I am really enjoying these books, but I am starting to really struggle with this narrator. She reads a few of the authors that I enjoy which is a shame. She has a peculiar way of narrating speech, which makes characters sound either exasperated every time they speak, or like over enthusiastic children. To be honest I had a job following the story because I was so focused on thinking "why is she reading this like that?" - a shame because these Dorset books are good.

I love the group of series

Great stories and I love you get to know the characters and they intertwine between the different series- can’t wait to listen to the next one - gripping story lines with humour included too

Enjoyable

This is the third book I have read and the third in the series. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Not only are there murders going on but there is a story with the main characters, I can't wait to find out what happens next in the fourth book.

Love Dorset

Yet another nail biting story although I guessed who the killer was. Nevertheless still enjoying it and thinking about travelling to Dorset to see the area

Poor Narration

I am really sorry because I enjoyed the storyline of the first 2books. They had everything I enjoyed in a good crime thriller. Unfortunately i had difficulty concentrating on the story because of poor narration. i gave up on book 3 and can no longer listen to the narrator. Her whiny voice throughout is unbearable. Her voices for the characters is awful. One of them speaks like a dog panting fast with excitement waiting on a treat. I actually get out of breath listening to him. I tune in to the bad narration and have no idea what the book is about. Shame about this as I am sure I am missing some good books.

Unrealistic

I enjoyed the first two in the series but found this one unrealistic. Without spoiling the ending, I feel the reasons for murder were flimsy at best and highly unlikely.
Generally the narrator is good but there are too many diversions and characters in the story to provide variation in her accents (apart from the voices of Leslie and Dennis).
The back story will keep me listening to the next one but this isn’t as gripping as the first two.
