Summary

On May 18th, 1863 - the day the siege of the Confederate stronghold at Vicksburg began - a secret war chest was removed by an ironclad and taken away along the Mississippi River. It contained a covenant capable of altering the entire course of the Civil War. Its destination was Washington, D.C. A place it never reached.

In the present day, Minnesotan senator Arthur Perry has enlisted the help of Sam Reilly to track down his son, who went missing while following a strange lead in the centuries-old search for the fabled Meskwaki Gold Spring within Lake Superior.

No one could have suspected that these two events, separated by more than 150 years, were inextricably linked....

Very exciting book, well worth a listen

I have listened to other stories in this series and they are all very entertaining and almost educational. Really good stories, plot twists and satisfying/happy endings, couldn't ask for more

As usual the narrator was excellent, always happy to listen to more from him.

American Civil War, Prohibition and a Missing Son.

This intriguing story spans over 150 years as many threads converge in this latest Sam Reilly adventure. The pace is none stop as the writer skillfully weaves the plot lines together to form a masterly tapestry of well rounded characters and believable incidents. Superb narration adds to the listening enjoyment. Highly recommended.

Great as usual

I just love these books and am so glad audible has almost caught up with the series now - I had received the first one free and since then bought each book as soon as audible brought it out. I am so grateful to the author for giving me that first book as now they have a fan in me and I look forward to listening to more Sam Reilly adventures

The narrator as always is perfect I adore his voice and he is just perfect for these and other books.

Okay

The Sam Reilly series has me coming back for more. However, the narration is like having my grandpa read a book to me. Someone like R.C.Bray the narrator is not.

A Scooby Doo mystery

When I first started listening to The Ironclad Covenant I thought it was going to be something like a Clive Cussler adventure, with a bit of W.E.B. Griffin thrown in (the description of the Walsh 12 shot revolver was very accurate). Unfortunately, the plot quickly entered the realm of the absurd. There was simply nothing believable about it. In an effort, I suppose, to give substance to the story, the writer included lots of diving and boating techno jargon. As a sailor and commercial diving instructor, most of it was just babble. Beyond the storyline, which read like an episode of Scooby Doo, the characters were incredibly shallow.
The narration was okay, but one of his "voices" did sound a bit like like a cartoon character. Also, narration should be edited for mispronounced words. There were several.
I wanted to give this a positive review, since it was furnished me at no cost with the understanding that I would publish an unbiased review. Just couldn't do it.

Absolutely riveting 5* read/listen.

The Ironclad Covenant: A Sam Reilly Novel book 10. As a fan of the series I am perhaps a little biased. This is possibly the best in the series (so far). Christopher Cartwright writes amazing water based adventure stories (Clive Cussler eat your heart out). The attention and details given are researched and woven into a well written story line. Lots of action and fast paced - really good entertainment.
I like the fact that the same narrator has done all the series, he is excellent very clear and concise tone who can carry even the technical details without you losing interest.

Still a great series!

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

I didn't love this one QUITE as much as the last book, but that's not to say it wasn't good. As each of these books are their own adventure, they can stand alone. So, I just enjoyed the last adventure more. That being said, this book was still well written and narrated and highly engaging... I just liked the previous adventure more. So, don't let that discourage you from enjoying it yourself.

Captivating Listen!

I so love the Sam Reilly series that Christopher Cartwright has written. How he blends history with fiction and lore in a seamless manner is wonderful. I enjoy the action, adventure, imagery, and characters. The unexpected twists are incredible! This book is a standalone listen and part of a series. David Gilmore continues to perform this series brilliantly. He gives the characters distinguishable voices and adds the right tension and suspense and other emotions. Of the series, this one is possibly my favorite. Kudos to Christopher Cartwright on this excellent book. I will definitely listen to more books by this author and narrator.

Move over Indiana Jones!

The Ironclad Covenant
A Sam Reilly Novel
By: Christopher Cartwright
Narrated by: David Gilmore
This is an Audible book I requested and the review is voluntary. This book is another great story! Treasure hunting for civil war money! You will never guess where it ends up! Lol! This has so many twists and turns and I was wondering how in the world and of this was connected but slowly and carefully the author teases pieces together to give just a glance at the picture. He does this through out the book building up suspense. Meanwhile there are bad guys after Sam and others! Great escape tricks too! Loved it! Eat your heart out Indiana Jones!
The narration was excellent as usual! Thanks!

Sam & the Sea!! Awesome!

I really enjoy the Sam Reilly series. I find the stories to be relaxing to listen to but also very intriguing. Christopher Cartwright spins his words with facts and gives us a highly entertaining listen. I enjoy how he weaves reality with his imagination so well. The story is well written, the characters nicely developed and plot steady. As usual with Sam Reilly we get action, adventure, suspense and mystery. The narration is wonderfully done by David Gilmore. I feel Sam Reilly is a mix of Sam Spade and Indiana Jones...love it! Highly recommend this entire series!
