The Variety Palace Music Hall is in trouble, due in no small part to a gruesome spate of murders that unfolded around it a few months previously.

Between writing, managing the music hall and trying to dissuade her boss from installing a water tank in the building, Minnie Ward has her hands full. Her complicated relationship with detective Albert Easterbrook doesn’t even bear thinking about.

But when a performer’s brother mysteriously goes missing, Minnie and Albert are thrown together once more. Then another body is found dead in a trunk, and a strange connection starts to emerge.

Second in the series and a welcome return of the fabulous, no nonsense, shrewd, down-to-earth heroine, Minnie. A vibrant, intelligent & moving crime novel set against a backdrop of Victorian theatre and historical tragedy. The audio is wonderfully narrated with authentic sounding and well dramatised voices.

Characters are all so full of life, yet believable. Wonderful historical fiction based around a London music hall. Funny, moving, great dialogue, good story and a cracking narration.
This one is based on a truly terrible real-life disaster which I’d never heard of before. An excellent listen.
