Summary

He's insisting he's a Tide Lord and he's begging us to try again...to kill him, that is.

When a routine hanging goes wrong, the survivor announces he is Cayal the immortal Prince, a Tide Lord. However, the only known record of the immortal beings of Amyrantha is the Tide Lord Tarot...and everyone knows it is only a parlour-game, an amusement.

Arkady Desean, an expert on the legends of the Crasii - a part-animal, part-human race - is sent to interrogate Cayal. But in exposing this would-be immortal, Arkady's own web of deceit threatens to unravel.

Nothing is as it seems around the Immortal Prince. The lies seem plausible, his stories improbable...and the truth is more than any of them bargained for.

Good start of a series

The fast paced story, quite interesting characters, and the use of Tarot. Will definitely continue.

An excellent story that was narrated superbly

I wasn't sure what to expect when I first started this book but I found the story to be intriguing. To put it simply: the story tells the tale of a depressed immortal ,who at one time controlled the power akin to a god, as he tries to prove his existence to a scientificly minded sceptic. However as we learn throughout this story not everything is as it seems and almost everyone has one secret or another to hide.

Surprisingly Gripping.

Quite an interesting read. Leaves you wondering what will happen next.

Though the writer took a strong character and erode all the things that made her strong.

Very original plot

Loved this book. Not predictable, so kept me listening. Loved the writing style and humour in parts. Narrator was outstanding. I had the digital book as well, but found I preferred listening to how he brought the characters alive.

New concept - novelty character within the genre

What did you like most about The Immortal Prince?

I have read pretty much everything worth reading in the fantasy genre over the last two and a half decades and thus it is very hard for me to find something with novelty character. Tide magic is a new concept, which makes the novel stand out among other fantasy works. Some components of the plot is somewhat reminiscent of Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles. While many fantasy novels have a medieval setting, this novel appears to have a Baroque setting, also differentiating it from others in the same category.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Immortal Prince?

What does John Telfer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

John Telfer is an extremely talented narrator who managed to bring to life the different characters. He is a key reason why I enjoyed listening to the book as much as I did.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Perhaps the episode when Cayal tried to rescue his daugher Vlis instead of assassinating her.

Any additional comments?

I would say that the whole plot flowed very smoothly, I found it difficult to switch off as I was eager to find out what would happen next.
The characters are all multi-faceted and nobody is really the person they appear to be at first sight. They all have their own secrets, grudges and ambitions. The author reveals this bit by bit as the plot moves along, which kept up the suspense.

Brilliant

I wouldn't compare this to Anne Rice's Interview with a Vampire, more like Zelazny's Princes of Amber. Actually, It is a refreshing new concept altogether.
This is the second time I am listening to Jenniffer Fallon's book, and I can honestly say I am a fan. Ursula LeGuin was my favorite female SF&fantasy writer by now, but Jennifer is close competition.
The story is intriguing and kept me awake most of the night. Just couldn't stop listening. The writing is good, characters nicely developing. I am so glad there are three more books.
Second Suns trilogy grew better and better, and if this is the case here, I probably won't do any chores until I am done listening.
The narrator is great, simply flawless.

Very enjoyable

Good characters, novel theme , as good if not better than Mistborn series for those who love this genre. Well and truly hooked and have bought the rest of series for a listening fest.
