Summary

The Week Junior Book Awards: Children’s Audiobook of the Year – Highly Commended.

At the stroke of midnight on the dawn of December, five-year-old Finn Albedo is found frozen in the city park on a pedestal of ice. The doctor says his heart is beating, but no one can wake him.

Finn’s big sister, Bianca, suspects the beautiful sparkling book Finn got from the library has something to do with it all but the mysterious book has vanished and no one will listen.

As more children are frozen, Bianca realises she’s running out of time.

Is there a connection between the peculiar stranger wearing a top hat and the disappearing books?

The search for truth hurls Bianca into a fantastical winter wonderland where all is not as it seems…

Can Bianca remember her mission and find a way to save her brother and the other Ice Children before all their hearts are lost forever?

A future classic with a powerful message at its core.

A perfect, uplifting Christmas story for our times.

This story is wonderful; the voice cast is superb, the story completely compelling, and the ending so uplifting.

While M G Leonard doesn’t shy away from addressing important and relevant themes, the overall tone of The Ice Children is so very positive and uplifting, filled to the brim with the joy of winter.

A must-listen for any child who loves snow and stories!

Very imaginary & important story

An important story and will be enjoyable for the young people especially and thought provoking for the older generation. performances from all involved were excellent. Well written and if generations can take onboard the damage we are inflicting on our planet and act to improve it and our governments then it will be a well directed story. well done 👍

Highly recommend this audiobook!

A vital topic enveloped in a beautifully written children's story. Brilliant voice acting, entertaining for both children and adults in my opinion.

Great Start, Devolves into Propoganda

The production is top notch with a full cast, sound scape etc. Interesting premise for the storyline. About half way through it turns from an adventure into propaganda on the evils of global warming (not that kids can do a lot about this).

At the end, many “helpful” hints are thrown in including wind farms and a plug for vegetarianism. Why? Wind farms are about the least effective form of “green” energy there is. Vegetarianism has nothing to do with the story at all. I just started rolling my eyes at the blatant push for a certain life-style/world view. Surely there is a less preachy, guilt-enducing way to have a conversation with kids about these things.

Good little story until the author chose to politicize it.

Pathetic attempt to mislead children to think the world is doomed to climate change. Actual change is so small historically it’s hardly measurable. So to ruin a good little story with the climate nazi’s bs is too sad.

Can’t and won’t recommend indoctrination of children!

But that the author had to shove her believes down our throats in the very end sours this book for me. The indoctrination of our children by people like M. G. Leonard isn’t much better than in any of the many schools raising our kids to confused adults, living in sin due to brainwashing of selfish idealists. Guilting kids into vegetarians is as bad as those windmills off shore killing the sea creatures, from Narwhal to amoeba. I can and will NOT EVER recommend this nook

Great story ruined by author's politics

I was thoroughly enjoying this story until the last few chapters. I was initially mildly disappointed that this wonderful story was turning into a climate change platform, but the last two chapters was literally nothing but spewing climate change political views. Why ruin what was a well told story just to tout political views?

If the author had left off at a soft sell of climate change concerns, I would have given this at least 4 stars. Only the stellar performance saved it from being a 1 or 2 star review.

Bottom line: Stories are supposed to entertain, not preach. And if you want to Aesopize a story (which is perfectly acceptable) make it subtle, not like a club over the head. I certainly won't be listening to any other stories from this author.

So true…

I know a lot of people think the ending is nonsense, but it’s actually pretty accurate. Climate change is EXTREMELY important, and we really need to step up and do something about it.
