Surprisingly good

After reading the comments about the narrator, I was unsure about this audiobook, however the story was good from the outset and although flagged a couple of times (as to be expected in a 17 hour book), it was paced well with enough action and story to keep me engaged with it.

The narrator may not be the best, and he may say the same word differently in the same sentence (Dallas or dalis!) but he made a decent stab at it, with the odd Russian and english accents as required and didn't detract from the story for me.

Cracking book and decent enough narration, I'd recommend this story.

Awesome, apart from the British accents

Love this book, as good as I remember reading it for the first time 25 years ago. Only problem is the catastrophically bad British accents.

watched the film... this is better

I saw the film years ago so looked forward to this... the subtle differences made in the film are there. this story is excellent just as you relax thinking all was finished back to action stations.

Absolute page turner (figuratively)

Having seen and loved the film I thought I would give the novel a try. Well worth the adventure.

The plot is well detailed, expertly crafted and in places shockingly exciting for an audiobook; Lance C Fuller is a wonderful narrator with some great character voices. Very rarely do you feel lost or overwhelmed at key points in the book. 10/10 would read again.

good but a bit long

Maybe it's just not aged well, the parts of it that were exciting were exciting, but there were some parts that dragged on for far too long. The reading was great

If you like submarines and you enjoy in depth military lingo, this is a must read. The movie is a 4/10 compared to this book
