Summary

The life of a courtesan in Pompeii is glittering, yet precarious....

Amara has escaped her life as a slave in the town's most notorious brothel, but now her existence depends on the affections of her patron: a man she might not know as well as she once thought.

At night, she dreams of the wolf den, still haunted by her past. Amara longs for the women she was forced to leave behind and worse, finds herself pursued by the man who once owned her. In order to be free, she will need to be as ruthless as he is.

Amara knows her existence in Pompeii is subject to Venus, the goddess of love. Yet finding love may prove to be the most dangerous act of all.

We return to Pompeii for the second instalment in Elodie Harper's Wolf Den Trilogy, reimagining the lives of the women from the town's lupanar.

Another Triumph!

After having read The Wolf Den, I couldn’t wait for the second book in this trilogy to be released and just like the first book in this series, I couldn’t bear the thought of reaching the end, knowing it is probably going to be another year or so before I will know how the whole story concludes.
I have been fortunate enough to have visited Pompeii twice in my life and have always had a keen interest in ancient history. Having been there and experienced the landscape and the streets of the ancient city has definitely enriched my experience and enjoyment of this novel.
I also think the narrator deserves a mention for her expertise in bringing all of Elodie Harper’s characters to life in such a captivating way.
Loved it!

Not as good as the first

I wasn't a fan of the narration for this book. I didn't feel like it quite captured the meaning behind the words, and made Amara sound like a bit of a dick...

I was also underwhelmed with the storyline, not much going on

Absolutely Gripping

If you enjoyed TheWolf Den , I suggest you set aside a weekend or take 2 days annual leave for the second instalment. Book 1 was interesting- book 2 had me on the edge of my seat and stuck next to a plug when the battery on my device ran out! Amara’s feud with Felix reaches new heights as the plot races on with unexpected twists and turns, new friendships, love and betrayal. The characters develop in this book and I’m desperate to know who will win the battle to survive & be free, and at what cost. It’s brilliant. Can’t wait for the final book.

Brilliant sequel.

Oh wow this is an amazing follow on from 'The Wolf Den'. I loved and hated how Amara's character developed, her strength was admiral but I wish it didn't have to come with such sacrifice! It's not often a sequel is better than the first but I actually think this was. To say I'm excited for the next one is an understatement, there are so many possibilities it's impossible to predict how this will end for Amara and her family.
I have given the performance only a 3* as I didn't enjoy this narrator, I could hear her swallowing on multiple occasions which was off-putting and I just didn't feel she had a genuine interest in the story or bringing the characters to life. It is rare I don't enjoy a narrator, even if I'm unsure to begin with they generally grow on me but sadly this wasn't the case this time. Fortunately this did not stop me from loving the story and listening at every possible opportunity!

A Good Trilogy

Excellently narrated. Great story and characters. Highly recommended for a very immersive listen. Read Wolf Den and immediately had to download book 2.

Gripping!

An excellent advance on the wolf dens amara. Her character is so lovable yet so frustrating. You are constantly willing for fictional glory for her yet Elodie harper has an ingenious way of entwining reality which carries you through such a human experience. I felt I was living amara’s life, feeling what she was and I can’t wait to read the final book!!

Excellent follow up to the wolf den

İf the previous book was about what will happen to Amara, this is more about will Amara lose it all. İn a way I found it more tense. Now that things are changing once again in her life, can't wait for the third book!

The story is not as compelling as the first book

The character of the protagonist changes and she does many things inconsistent with her character in the previous book and with a person who has been through a trauma, in my opinion.
