Summary

A perfect house. The perfect couple. A perfect trap.

Marcella Middleton has always tried to live a good life, but after losing her job, her boyfriend, and her home, she's tired of playing by the rules.

But she has a plan.

She's going to trick her way into Carmel and Rufus's home, that sickeningly perfect couple with the amazing, renovated farmhouse they're always boasting about in those glamorous lifestyle magazines.

She'll tell them she only wants to stay for a few days, even though she never intends to leave.

She has no idea the house is haunted by the ghosts of the past. Or that the couple have a sinister hidden agenda of their own.

And with danger lurking behind every door, Marcella will be lucky to make it out alive…

Bad narration & weak story

Sometimes it takes me a while to figure out if it’s poor writing or narration, and after a while with this book I realised it’s an unhappy marriage of both. I was close to returning quite early on and then read some decent reviews so persisted, but wish I hadn’t - and would recommend you save yourself a credit!

Plotline is predictable and the twists are so heavily signposted you can’t really call them twists. I usually get intrigued by an unlikeable/unreliable narrator but in this case it just doesn’t connect. It’s totally far fetched and just not a very engaging read.

The performance is really poor, feels a bit like primary school acting. Some very basic words are mispronounced too, which I always find disappointing.

In short, give it a miss!
