Summary

When the body of pregnant 15-year-old Hope Lacey is discovered in a churchyard on Christmas morning, the community is shocked, but unsurprised. For Hope lived in The Home, the residence of three young girls, whose violent and disturbing pasts have seen them cloistered away.

As a police investigation gets underway, the lives of Hope, Lara and Annie are examined, and the staff who work at the home are interviewed, leading to shocking and distressing revelations...and clear evidence that someone is seeking revenge.

A gritty, dark and devastating psychological thriller, The Home is also an emotive drama and a piercing look at the underbelly of society, where children learn what they live...if they are allowed to live at all.

Not my usual listen

I found this book difficult to listen to especially at the beginning. I’m glad I did as the author is great at bringing the characters to life.
It is a tragic book because it’s all about very young children being abused.
…..I’m now going to Google the author to see if she grew up in care…

Best book in a long time!!! From start to end in

Loved it. Kept me hooked all the way through. Easy to follow characters with a touch of dark subjects mixed in.

Really interest in and gripping book

this book kept me interested from start to finish. There was a limited number of characters that were easy to keep up with them. The book was full of twists. However, unfortunately I’d guessed the twist before the end but that didn’t stop me from staying interested.

Depressing and longwinded

After reading Other Parents by the same author I must have expected to much.
I enjoyed getting into the story but then it became a tedious and predictable chore.
At one point the story made me feel positively depressed. I know the nature of the topic wasn't supposed to be delightful but oh how it went on and on about the girls relationship.
There was one whole chapter dedicated to bulimia... it was unnecessarily detailed and boring. I was so relieved when this story was over.
