Douglas Adams was a passionate technology enthusiast. His best-selling The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy is full of futuristic tech, and in 1990 he predicted something very like the World Wide Web in the BBC2 film Hyperland. So in 1999, he was the natural choice to present Radio 4’s The Internet: The Last 20th Century Battleground. In it, he looked at the explosion in online communication, the evolution of cyberspace, and the risks and opportunities of the new virtual world.

Summary
Don’t panic! The Hitchhiker’s saga continues with a full-cast dramatisation of Life, the Universe and Everything, the third book in Douglas Adams’s famous ‘trilogy in five parts.’
‘The pitch here at Lord’s is blackened, lightly smoking down towards square leg – and two men have just materialised on a Chesterfield sofa....’
And so the scene is set for the Tertiary Phase of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, the phenomenon which began life as a BBC radio series and went on to spawn a best-selling series of novels. With this full-cast radio dramatisation, the Guide returns to its original medium with its original cast.
Stranded on prehistoric Earth, Arthur Dent and Ford Prefect find escape in the form of a time-travelling sofa. But as eleven homicidal, bat-wielding robots proceed to blow up Lord’s Cricket Ground, it seems that Arthur is far from Home and Dry. In fact, he is not even Home and Vigorously Towelling Himself.
Off. Soon he is on an explosive quest to save the Universe, equipped with only a rabbit bone, a worn dressing gown, and a spaceship which looks remarkably like an Italian bistro.
Simon Jones returns as Arthur, Geoffrey McGivern as Ford, Susan Sheridan as Trillian, Mark Wing-Davey as Zaphod Beeblebrox, and Stephen Moore as Marvin the Paranoid Android. William Franklyn is the Book, the late Douglas Adams himself appears in the role of Agrajag, and guest stars include Richard Griffiths, Chris Langham, Joanna Lumley and Leslie Phillips.
This extended edition features 20 minutes of material not heard on BBC Radio 4.

Glad to hear it
Having listened to some of the episodes on the Radio I was very glad to see HHGTTG in the Audible library and with the full cast from the radio. The reproduction was great, and this Tertiary Phase is added to the other two Phases available via Audible. It is a pity that Audible have not got the original two Radio 4 series and Link episode. This would make the best collection. HHGTTG was a great radio series and left a lot to the imagination - the radio was the original format and the best!

I just wish there was a ten star rating!
If you could sum up The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, The Tertiary Phase (Dramatised) in three words, what would they be?
Fabulous...fabulous...fabulous
What did you like best about this story?
I can't recommend HHGTTG highly enough. I've been listening to them for over thirty years now and they still make me laugh. They are my 'go to' books when I'm down and need a giggle. I think I can actually quote from of the dialogue by now. Get them, listen to them and join the thousands who love them!
Which character – as performed by the narrators – was your favourite?
Marvin...of course!

Creative Stimulation
Can't beleve how good Hitchhiker's Guide is an audiobook, (given first impressions of the film)!
Somehow it taps into precisely that opposite sphere of the brain to the one used while driving and gives it loads of interesting titbits to mull over. The production is superb and only 'The Mighty Boosh' is really comparible for sheer imaginative vividness.
This particular episode includes the 'Cricketer' robots (who attack everything in sight), the starship Bistromath (runs on the mathematical principles of a restaurant) and that famous bit where the villain sugests that the, should the universe be explained, it will be replaced by something even more bizarely inexplicable (some say this has happened already).
Furthermore, it stars the inimitable Richard Griffiths and a man who knows the question to the meaning of life, the universe and everything.
Definitely recommended listening!

Life? Don't talk to me about life...
Script-wise this is a pretty good adaptation of the source material, but sadly it fails to capture the charm and innocence of the original instalments.
Gone is the magical audio landscape of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop with its curious and hypnotic analogue synth sounds, and it's been replaced by an almost orchestral score; it's not *bad*, but it's not *right*. (That said, the Krikkit song is a showstopper!) Something also appears to have happened to Geoff McGivern's voice in the years since the original series were recorded, and the replacement for Peter Jones just doesn't work.
If you're a fan of the primary and secondary phases (or just an Adams fan in general) this is far more satisfying than the appalling movie adaptation, but it's far from perfect.
(Also note that the version I downloaded on my phone seems to have a stereo mix but the version I downloaded for iTunes seems to be a lo-fi mono mix despite having it set to "enhanced", and therefore is even further from perfect. I shall be querying this with customer support...)

The Starship Bistromath sounds wonderful
This is Hitchhikers back to its normal madness...
The Krikkit wars, a love interest for Arthur and an assault by the TV version of Ford Prefect. It's complete chaos and more wonderful for it.
There is even an appearance by Douglas Adams.
This marks the first of the 'new' episodes and it is hard to believe there was a twenty-odd year gap between this and secondary phase (also available here at Audible!). It's smooth and crisp and thoroughly lovely.
Get it!

Very disappointing - voices and tone different
Big fan of Primary and Secondary phase, so obviously got Tertiary to continue adventures. The tone and audio quality is very very different to 1&2, and 'The Book' is voiced by a different and much less animated actor. Very disappointed, and don't intend to finish the book or buy 4 & 5 (as we'll be missing the middle chunk).

Dramatization, not the book.
Hi guys,
Just wanted to point out that this is the BBC radio show and not the actual books. Those are also on audible but are usually read by a single narrator. All versions of Adam's amazing series are very different from each other so there is no harm in listening, reading or watching either the BBC TV Series from the 80's or the Movie. Alot of people will discourage you from watching the movie but to be honest since they only had time to tell part of the story, it's well worth seeing. But nothing beats the original radio series or the original novels.
For those of you who are just starting your journey with Arthur Dent, I envy you. Have fun and don't forget your towel!!

Fantastic - They finally finished the radio show
I really enjoyed the original 'Primary' and 'Secondary Phase' radio shows when I was a kid, and was a little dubious when the BBC decided to continue it. However, I have to say I was blown away by the production. True to the original, with much of the original cast. It was a delight to listen to. Highly recommended.
A note to those who can't download this title: It's worth noting that, being based in the UK, there a plenty of US titles that I can't purchase either :o)

The adventure continues!
And here we are again!
At the end of the Secondary Phase of the Hitchhikers' Guide series, we heard Arthur Dent take off in Zaphod's ship, along with Marvin, a Lintilla clone, Eddie, the shipboard computer, etc. Now, he wakes up on earth, 2 million years in our past?
So, that just proves the universe is stranger than we think--especially Douglas Adam's Hitchhikers' universe.
Now, you can hear, in all of BBC's brilliant radio style, the dramatization of the third book, "Life, The Universe, and everything". Will Arthur find out the ultimate question this time? Will he finally get a cup of tea? Will he return to earth and settle down--even though the vogons destroyed the earth?
Listen and find out!
The BBC, again, does a wonderful job in bringing the third book to life, and, thanks to BBC and Audible, you can go along for the ride.
The BBC has given voices to some new characters, and, been able to bring many original cast members back for the dramatization of the final 3 books in the series. Some of the original cast are no longer with us, but, the BBC has done a good job replacing them.
True, the actors are a little older, but, I still don't have any trouble believing who they are.
This was performed after Douglas Adams died, but, he does make an appearance. See if you can guess who he plays!
Don't wait! Add this to your cart right now!

Ugh, a far cry from primary and secondary phases
I have always maintained that the best version of the HHGTTG was the original BBC radio series, better (though much shorter than the books (the movie we shall not discuss). I heard it first in the late 70's, and highly recommend it (the primary and secondary phases). It has the energy and freedom that newly created masterpieces often do. I was excited to see the other phases on audible. Created much later, these lack the originality and energy of the originals, I listened though, and may someday do the later phases, to glean a few more jokes and to be a completist.

I also experienced issues with downloading as I was "geographically challenged". However, this trully is an amazing book (finally got a hold of it), and I recommend it to anyone, young and old, with a dry, satiracal or blantanly blunt humour. A must listen for all.

Excellent Continuation of the Radio Series
Even though, once upon a time, I had read all the Hitchhiker's Guide novels, and this dramatization is based on the third book, I didn't remember anything about it as I listened to this. That's not a complaint, just an interesting observation, since this series is among my all-time favorites. Not knowing what was coming meant all the plot twists and jokes were fresh and new, so I enjoyed this radio play completely! I loved the cast, including the recasting of characters whose actors had passed away, though it was sad to think that both of Slartibartfast's voice actors have now passed 😞 I didn't know until finishing this and reading others' reviews that Douglas Adams himself voices a role posthumously, as well! Definitely looking forward to listening to the next entry in this series!

Great fun!
The Hitchhikers radio series continues to entertain. And as always, it's very interesting to see the differences between this and the later material. Mostly the books at this point.

Hilarious!
This is part three of five of the Hitchhiker's Guide. Just simply loved this entire series of the Hitchhiker's Guide, being the original BBC radio series.
