Summary

From the best-selling author of the Stolen Bride series comes a brand new and exciting family saga!

For fans of Scottish historical romance, the Sutherland Legacy propels you into the Highlands with tales of daring adventure, irresistible heroes, and passion!

Sir Niall Oliphant was betrothed to the Bruce's daughter, Princess Elizabeth, until she declares that his wound in battle has incapacitated him as a man. Because he does not wish to marry the spoiled royal, he is glad to pass her off to his brother Sir Walter. He's more than content to fade into the background with his injuries and remain a bachelor forever. Until he is presented with an offer from the Earl of Sutherland to marry his only daughter, a lass more beautiful than any other, who makes him want to stand up and fight again.

Bella Sutherland, daughter of one of the most powerful earls and Highland chieftains in Scotland, can marry anyone she wants - but she wants no one. When she spies the injured warrior at the Yule festival who has been shunned by the Bruce's own daughter, she makes her choice. What is better than no husband? A husband who cannot truly be husband at all. But she won't be satisfied with letting him languish. If there's one thing she's learned, its not to give up. With them both satisfied that they are gaining a marriage in name only, imagine their surprise when love blossoms and passion ignites?

ok story

Nice enough story line and characters. Dialogue needed some work. Writing all a bit rushed. Narration was ok, but he needed better voices and emotional emphasis, especially for the female characters.

The rhythm of the book was great.

It is Absolutely Splendid! Simple, nice flow and buildup of each character. A great read

Worth a credit.

A lovely listen and equally great love story. One where all your wishes come true. Filled with valour, humour and not filled with overly vulgar / unnecessary descriptive sex scenes. However, there are sex scenes 😉.

Easy listen

First listen to a book from this author and time period, it was a sweet love story that was easy enough to listen to.

Accent

Terrible Scottish accent by English narrator... annoys me greatly . There are plenty of Scottish narrators that could've done the job. PLEASE STOP IT.

Charmingly light story - dreadful narration

The story is good enough for the genre and entertaining/distracting, but unfortunately I have to agree with the other reviewers in that the Scottish accent of the narrator is really bad. It does make me wonder who allowed this recording to go ahead and why was it not stopped once they heard that accent? A better narrator would have helped listeners get lost in the story which I never really did, and which is a real shame.

The narrator accent is all wrong

The story was good but the narrator’s Scottish accent was completely wrong…pity! English narration was ok though

Loved it

This is the 3rd time listening to these serieses and loved every second of them again. This is the first book of another series of the Sutherland family, which is about Magnus'and Arabella's offsprings.
The prequel novella of this series is supposed to be The Highlanders Reward, Magnus and Arabella's story, the parents of the heroines and the heroes of this series, and not Highlanders Conquest, Blaine and Aliah's story. Blaine is their uncle. Because The Highlanders Conquest is listed as the prequel of this series and its wrong. I'm just letting readers/listeners know that's all.
The narrator is good but I preferred Corrie James that narrated the first series of the Sutherlands. Anthony Ferguson is good but he reads the book like he's reading it to a class of children, like he's reading a fairytale. I don't know how to explain it but it's like the hero and heroine's tones are like children's, but with deep voices.
But I love Eliza Knights books so I'm on to the next one.

Narator is aweful

Story is good, a shame it felt the need to turn all the negatives into positives. Sometimes life's shit, and that's OK. Not everything has to be perfect. But the narator is atrocious, if you can't do a Scots accent don't read a book set in Scotland. The way he said "ye" and "aye" had me cringing everytime!
