It’s a case she can’t refuse.

Spell-slinger. Vampire-slayer. Magical albino ferret-rescuer. Meet Jacqueline Denna Knight, the best wizard detective in the city.

Jax turns vampires to ash and pain into magic. She also has a knack for finding things. So, when a distraught - and obscenely wealthy - elf calls Jax at midnight to hire her for an intriguing job, she grabs the opportunity with both hands.

But what Jax doesn’t know is that this case is going to unravel her life. She’ll get tangled up with a host of intriguing characters, most of whom are not who they appear to be.

As Jax speeds down a path toward the most powerful vampire clan in the country, she’ll have to put everything on the line.

Will she be able to use her unique brand of magic to save the Realm?

This is a breakneck-paced mix of urban fantasy, irreverent humor, and detective noir. Fans of The Dresden Files and Jessica Jones will burn through this brand new addictive urban fantasy series.

I enjoyed the fast paced story line. The characters are fun and well thought out.

I'm sure you'll find reasons to smile...

Initially I wasn't sure if I liked this story... although there's a whole lotta' action, it felt as if all our protagonist (Jax) could do, was react to the situation, as JT Lawrence kept right on throwing seemingly random near killing events/monsters at her. I do love action and a kickass heroine, but I definitely need a plot driven story, with some good world building to boot! And, I didn't see much of that going on... Well, that is until we get about halfway through HighFire Crown when the story gets in the groove and we get the kind of writing that I have come to expect from JTL.
Things I loved: First up, Gizmo the magical albino ferret (what a Hoot!)... and then there's Jax' bike which had been spelled to come when she called it, and it would appear from the dark void with sparkly magical glitter. There's also a dwarf named Sarah, who is a friend that Jax has had since schooldays and then there's the very sad, troubled twins, that finally find a reason to smile... when they encounter Gizmo! And I love the way Roshina Ratnam with her South African accent says (al-bee-no), but it also irritated me at the number of times she had to say albino...
Roshina Ratnam sure upheld her end of the audio version of HighFire Crown by giving us a rousing, high octane performance! I'm pretty sure she needed some ice cream to soothe her "pipes" when she finished reading this... LOL
I'm equally sure you're going to find your own reasons to smile when you listen to this one! 😊

This book made my anxiety go thru the roof, not in a good way. It was like more bad crap on more bad crap I’m very confused how the main character is still alive. Will not finish the series.
