Summary
At one time, Corrie ten Boom would have laughed at the idea that she had a story to tell. For the first 50 years of her life, nothing out of the ordinary ever happened to her. She was a spinster watchmaker living contentedly with her sister and their elderly father in the tiny house over their shop in Haarlem. Their uneventful days, as regulated as their own watches, revolved around their abiding love for one another.
But with the Nazi invasion and occupation of Holland, everything changed. Corrie ten Boom and her family became leaders in the Dutch underground, hiding Jewish people in their home in a specially built room and aiding their escape from the Nazis. For their pains, all but Corrie found death in a concentration camp.
Here is a story aglow with the glory of God and the courage of a quiet Christian whose life was transformed by it.

Beautiful, powerful story. A must read/listen
a testament to the goodness of God. A story of quiet faithfulness, the constant exposure to scripture being the source of God working with power through this amazing, you unassuming family.
Beautifully read. I frequently had tears in my eyes.

For the faith to the faithless
A remarkable account. I don’t believe in any of the supernatural and therefore listened to this from a different perspective than many of the reviewers. Particularly as some the same faith enabled many to flee from Germany to safer havens.
Corrie is an amazingly resourceful and resilient woman who survived through quick thinking quirks of fate. A community leader who understood the true sense of collaboration, positive psychology and humanism. She sees all of these strengths as other worldly, rather than her own which I think is a shame. Shows how effective indoctrination can be. Ironic, because this horrific aberration in history was also as a result of indoctrination. Nevertheless, the human spirit, empathy, and compassion - humanistic qualities that evolved over tens of thousands of years are everywhere here for us all to see.

Am I even a Christian? You'll ask many times.
The Hiding Place is unforgettable and many times I found myself wondering if I was even a Christian. Could I do any of the things that the Ten Booms did? Love the way they loved? Suffer the way they suffered? Die with grace the way most of them died? I can't say I will, but after listening to this book, by the grace of God, I'm certainly going to try.
