Summary

It is said that every man is haunted by one mistake....

The year is 881. Ten years have passed since 15-year-old Ceridwen set out from her Priory home to make her own life. She has known love and loss, triumph and heartbreak. Yet the Circle which has moved about her is largely intact, although the counterpoint has changed, bringing with it the hope of renewed love. Ceridwen and Sidroc build their new lives together on the Baltic island of Gotland, where they are free and unknown. The bond between them, always strong even when years and wars separated them, deepens quickly into the profound and exquisite love that Sidroc had always claimed was their shared fate.

Their new island home is a place of peace and beauty. They make fast friends of the brew-house keeper Rannveig and her deaf son, Tindr, a young man who is both an expert hunter and deeply dedicated to the service of the Goddess Freyja.

They work and plan for next year's sailing season, when they hope to send a shipment of rich goods to trade. They feel protected and safe - until the shattering arrival of the one person they fear most in the world....

Another Favorite!

I have enjoyed every book in this series. The only disappointment is that I know they will eventually end! Nano’s voice is calming and easy to listen to, Octavia’s stories are always top notch!

Amazing Journey!

I have so enjoyed every aspect of this series. The writing is engaging and educational. The performance of the woman reading is amazing! Thank you for keeping the same actor, it greatly enhances the continuity of listening to the series.

A little disappointing.

I struggled to finish this book. It was very slow moving and not as good as the last book in the series.

Only a few more of these to read (sigh)

I have enjoyed the Ceridwen books -- 4 so far, and find them addictive. They are set in the 9th Century and are full of memorable characters. I have not researched whether the settings, tools, and environments are accurate, but they certainly seem so--and I am always intrigued to learn how LOW tech societies worked. The people in Ceridwen's life, and she herself, often push the boundaries of their societal roles, but not in ways that seem unbelievable. So as a dedicated "Outlander" fan, I can recommend these to you, though in comparison, the Ceridwen books do not have actual known historical events that strongly influence the plot. Randolf writes less history and less sexual detail (the descriptions are relatively restrained), but delightful books nevertheless.

this series continues to be enjoyable and ring true to all the historical minutia (not that I'm a scholar in such). well worth the listen, the whole series so far has been.

Really good and entertaining.

I really enjoyed the story lines. Octavia Randolph did a great job picking up where "The Claiming" left off. Looking forward to the next one.

Lovely written & great narrating

For my friends that know how much I love The Outlander series, this is a wonderful series also. Probably hard to actually read as there are many words that I was not familiar with. But listening to it is grand!
