Summary

When Special Agent Will Robie gets the call to make his first visit home since he was a teenager, it's because his father, the local judge, has been arrested for murdering a man who came before him in court. The small, remote Mississippi town hasn't changed, and its residents remember Robie as a wild sports star and girl magnet. He left a lot of hearts broken and a lot of people angry.

Will and his father, Dan, are estranged, and his mother left years ago. When he visits Dan in jail, he finds that time hasn't healed old wounds. There's too much bad blood between the men, and although Will feels no good will come of staying around, he is persuaded to confront his demons by fellow agent Jessica Reel.

But then another murder changes everything, and stone-cold killer Robie will finally have to come to grips with his toughest assignment of all. His family.

An insight into Will's mind

Another great book by Baldacci. An interesting reach into the history and mind of Will Robie and great to see his partner in crime back to have his six

Good but not great

I enjoy the Will Robie series very much and this is good, although different from the previous stories. This focuses on Robie’s personal background, which is interesting but not as compelling, for me, as those stories that centre on the killing machine we know up to this point. The relationship between Robie and Jessica Reel is fascinating - that two such cold killers can trust and depend upon the other is thought provoking. My only reservation re the story is the apparent weakness in Robie following his last two missions. For me, the stringing out doesn’t ring true. The narrators are good, especially Orlagh Cassidy. I found getting used to Kyf Brewer a little odd. Roll on the next Robie story!

The Guilty Parties

One of my favourite of his books. So many layers to this, strings to pull, yet doesn't get tangled up!

A good listen

I have read/listened to a couple of David Baldacci books and I will be reading/listening to more.
I found the story a touch slow at the start but it picked up speed very quickly.
The story was enlightening, interesting, riveting and touching.
Well read with great accents!
Loved the main character and his side kick.
