About this listen

Evil is raging on the 20th floor of an apartment building on the West Side. In an open window, a hideous blind nun perpetually gazing...watching. A body, burned beyond recognition. Then two more murders...strangely connected. And the discoverer, a beautiful young woman, raped. Her innocent child exposed to horror. Her husband, furious, relentlessly set on revenge. A cool, calculating, laughing priest intent on saving more lives from the destruction. And so it begins...powerful, satanic, terrifying...a time you will never forget.

I was interested to listen to book 2 having read book 1 ‘The Sentinel’ years ago. The narration is first class, Todd Glass brings atmosphere and depth to the story and skips into different accents effortlessly. These kind of novels can be a bit of an acquired taste. Good and Evil, Satan as a supernatural force, all a bit hard to go along with! What’s interesting is their sense of time and place. The Sentinel and The Guardian are both set in NYC; ancient evil deeds going in in the shadows of a modern city, much like Rosemary’s Baby written a decade earlier. The plot follows on from book 1 with some characters spanning both novels. The ending sets the author up for book 3 in the series. Not really in the same league as said Rosemary’s Baby but enjoyable enough.

Period Horror (enjoyable enough)
