About this listen

C.S. Lewis’s dazzling allegory about heaven and hell – and the chasm fixed between them – is one of his most brilliantly imaginative tales, as he takes issue with the ideas in William Blake’s ‘The Marriage of Heaven and Hell’.

In a dream, the narrator boards a bus on a drizzly afternoon and embarks on an incredible voyage through Heaven and Hell. He meets a host of supernatural beings far removed from his expectations, from the disgruntled, ghostly inhabitants of Hell to the angels and souls who dwell on the plains of Heaven.

This powerful, exquisitely written fantasy is one of C.S. Lewis’s most enduring works of fiction and a profound meditation on good and evil.

Critic reviews

‘There is attractive imagery and amusing satire… There are exciting speculations… Mr. Lewis rouses curiosity about life after death only to sharpen awareness of this world.’ The Guardian

Made me think a fresh about the reality of life after death . It brought home to me if one wants to live in heaven, one needs to desire and want to live the Christian ideal of loving God and neighbour, and the book gave an insight to the challenge involved in try to do so.

Another great insight to the Christian life

The story of this book, gives you a completely different perspective on what he’ll is. Likewise the perspective of what heaven is like is also surprising and inspiring.
This book is definitely worth ready, if you want to have your intellect challenged on traditional views of heaven and hell.

Not what I was expecting, but pleasantly surprising!

Julian is my fave narrator. The book is beautiful even if one does not believe in heaven and hell, its a great story of redemption which could apply to the living rather than the dead. Listen to this when you are sad.

Would recommend reading this not only once, but once every year - will also get the physical copy. Every Christian should read this - not as fact, but as a thought-provoking message that allows one to open their mind to consider their choices in this life, and how every choice they make will impact their eternal future.
More than that, to consider their relationship with God - do I have a relationship with God? How often do I look to God? Is it a close or distant relationship? I feel like, for the first time in my life, I have found myself considering eternity, and my own death without fear. I am, for brief moments, able to look upon my life up to this point without attachment.
As I said before - incredible read.
