Perfect for fans of Harlan Coben and Linwood Barclay, this is a pause-resisting thriller. The peaceful town of Wintersville is a place safe from the crime and congestion of city life, where neighbours feel like family. It's the perfect place to live. But when a teenager is discovered brutally murdered in the woods, it becomes clear that a psychopath is roaming the streets.

Story
FBI agents Brady Moore and Alicia Wager are accustomed to grisly crimes like the so-called Pelletier Killings. But when the pair uncovers ancient prophecies that link the victims, the wrath of the killers turns on them. Reeling from a series of attempts on their lives, they follow a scant trail of evidence that leads them to Luco Scaramuzzi, the charismatic Italian ambassador to Israel, a man of near limitless power and incalculable wealth.
Summary
Six months have passed since the first murder investigation Detective Reed Mattox and his K-9 partner worked together, finding them in the throes of a steamy Midwestern summer, dealing with the usual increase in low-level crime that the hottest months tend to bring, when something unexpected happens.
A body is found, and then another, and soon Reed and Billie are on the trail of a potential serial killer whose only pattern for his crimes seems to be no pattern at all.
Battling against the heat and the clock, the K-9 team must sort through the crimes to identify a common thread that ties them all together. If they can, they may be able to stop the murders.
If they can't, there's no telling how many more people will become victims before the dog days of summer end....

Enjoyed
I enjoyed listening to the narration of Scott R. Smith. Just right for this book.
A detective story and dog in the mix perfect. We have drama, there is political wrangling of an overstretched Police department.
Reed and Billie start with a couple of unexplained murders, which leads them on to finding more . Plenty of twists and turns.
Great storey line draws you in and keeps you guessing right to the end.

Different Plot Good Narration
Took awhile to get into this plot, different. The relationship between Reed and his partner Billie is great. The key was how Billie solved the case, while bodies and the heat kept climbing. Will definitely look for more by the author Given audio for my voluntary review and my honest opinion
