Summary

Morgan Jones' heart-stopping thriller, The Good Sister, sees one father go further than he ever knew possible, to rescue a daughter who doesn't want to be saved.

A missing daughter. A desperate father. A journey to save them both.

Sofia Mounir’s world is not her own. Her mother is sick, her father broken, the London they live in is dying of greed and self-obsession.

So she flees, to Raqqa: heart of the caliphate, foundation stone of a just world that she will help to build. From violence and sacrifice will grow something beautiful, and she will be part of it. Her faith will be equal to everything asked of her.

Until it isn’t. Until it becomes clear that not all her new brothers’ and sisters’ intentions are as pure as her own. Until even her faith becomes a liability.

Where do you turn, when the future you’ve longed for wants you dead?

A good book for the time

Very good story and characters. Story changed a little towards the middle and just gets a tad far fetched. Saying this, I did enjoy it a lot, even if I was a little put off initially because of the current news subject on this topic. Very well read, and loved all the different accents.

Highest praise for book and performance

Too often an audiobook is either a good book or a good performance. The Good Sister is a great story, but an equally great performance by Avita Jay and that is the highest praise I can give if. Well done...really, really enjoyable.

An All Consuming Book

Morgan Jones’s book, ‘The Good Sister’, manages to bring to stark reality the full horrors of radicalism & its effect on young minds. The characters are so credible & described so vividly that the reader is immediately transported to Syria & the complexities of the situation there. The development of the two main characters is sensitive, skilful & heartbreaking. This is a completely riveting read.

Exciting, horrifying, hopeful, empathic...

Was really pleasantly surprised by the reader after being bored to tears by some, but this reader felt perfectly matched.
The story felt authentic and gave me a real sense of hope for the characters and I looked forward to getting that time alone to listen. Super happy I found it.

Chilling stuff

This was an Audible freebie and I'm glad to have heard it. If it is a first book, it's a very good start. It's the story of a father who sets out to rescue his estranged daughter from the clutches of Isis and if it's anything close to the truth about Jihadi brides, it's chilling. It opened my eyes to the online grooming of young girls, the violence they're exposed to, and the kind of brutal young men who use religion as an excuse to indulge their homicidal practices. The storytelling is tight, it moves right along and pulls no punches. Maybe the parents of daughters could learn a lot from this book....
