Summary
She's a friendly voice on the phone. But can you trust her?
The people who call End of the Line need hope. They need reassurance that life is worth living. But some are unlucky enough to get through to Laura. Laura doesn’t want them to hope. She wants them to die.
Laura hasn’t had it easy: she's survived sickness and a difficult marriage only to find herself heading for forty, unsettled and angry. She doesn't love talking to people worse off than she is. She craves it.
But now someone’s on to her - Ryan, whose world falls apart when his pregnant wife ends her life, hand in hand with a stranger. Who was this man, and why did they choose to die together?
The sinister truth is within Ryan's grasp, but he has no idea of the desperate lengths Laura will go to...
Because the best thing about being a Good Samaritan is that you can get away with murder.

Dark and twisted
After having read a brilliant ARC of John Marr's latest book I thought it was time I caught up with his back catalogue. I wasn't disappointed by this very dark psychological thriller.
Laura is a volunteer at a Samaritans type of organisation called The End of the Line. She loves her work and we soon find out she enjoys talking people INTO committing suicide. She has to be the vilest, most wicked character I have ever encountered. There is absolutely nothing good about her. The other main character of the book is Ryan, who finds out that Laura talked his pregnant wife into jumping off a cliff.
The book is a page turning, edge of the seat game of cat and mouse between Laura and Ryan. It sometimes makes quite uncomfortable reading but I couldn't stop listening. There are many twists and turns along the way, and this is a story that I won't forget.
Excellent narration made this a fantastic listen.

Really enjoyed this!
Listened to this very quickly as couldn’t put it down. Gripping story from outset & highly original.
Would definitely recommend it. It’s the second John Marrs book I’ve read & I’ll definitely be seeking out his others.
Only slightly annoying bit performance wise was the male characters talking in women’s voices, they really irritated me as the voices didn’t fit the characters, they were posh & twee. Don’t bother I say, no need to put on a lady voice!

A Chilling Tale
It took me a while to get into the story but once the plot started to unravel, I was hooked. Not sure about the narrators voices or performances but a brilliantly written story

Edge of your seat
What a rollercoaster. This story is shocking, twisted, infuriating but ultimately satisfying. A true villain that frustratingly keeps winning until she FINALLY gets what’s coming to her. Great listen!
