Summary

She's a friendly voice on the phone. But can you trust her?

The people who call End of the Line need hope. They need reassurance that life is worth living. But some are unlucky enough to get through to Laura. Laura doesn’t want them to hope. She wants them to die.

Laura hasn’t had it easy: she's survived sickness and a difficult marriage only to find herself heading for forty, unsettled and angry. She doesn't love talking to people worse off than she is. She craves it.

But now someone’s on to her - Ryan, whose world falls apart when his pregnant wife ends her life, hand in hand with a stranger. Who was this man, and why did they choose to die together?

The sinister truth is within Ryan's grasp, but he has no idea of the desperate lengths Laura will go to...

Because the best thing about being a Good Samaritan is that you can get away with murder.

Engaging start but lazy ending.

This book starts brilliantly, the beginning gripped me and was compelling.
Then about 4 hours from the end the story sags badly as the characters behave in ways which are increasingly ridiculous and unbelievable.
The ending is lazy and unsatisfying, it seemed that the author, having written such an engaging beginning, lost interest in the characters and plot development.

The Good Samaritan

What a fantastic book.

I loved everything about this book, it appealed to my dark side. It was great listening as it really brought the book to life for me.

How easily the truth can be distorted and manipulated by any one person, how far would you go for kicks? Or for your family.

If you love a book that has twists and turns you would not expect. To be drawn in to a book that makes you want to read/listen to the very end just to see how it all works out... then this is the one for you.

Absolutely Bonkers But A Rip Roaring Listen!

This book is totally mad! Elizabeth Knowelden’s whispering narration isn’t usually my favourite but it’s perfect for this character. The other narrators are good, though Ryan does sound like a parody. Perhaps that’s the only way his narrator could bring himself to read it... Having said all that, I actually, strangely, bizarrely quite enjoyed it (though I’m not sure I’d admit that out loud).

Finished in one night!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I haven't loved a book this much since Alice Feeny's "Sometimes I Lie." It's on the same level with its unreliable narrator and her mental issues leaving us to question alongside her what was real and what was not. There were so many twists and turns and every time I thought things would go one way they went another. Somehow Laura was both terrifying and sympathetic at the same time. And I still don't know what to believe about her back story and childhood experiences. I loved it to the end although I only enjoyed the performance of the main character. The other narrators were a bit flat for me and kept pulling me out of the story. But overall the best book I've listened to in a very long time. Would definitely read more of the author's work.

Best book i've read in a long time

Top marks from me. The story was deliciously dark and lots of twists turns and gasps!. I loved the female narrator for 'Laura' very smooth, calm and a joy to listen to!....the only thing that spoiled it for me was the male narration of 'female voices' . I have no idea why they had to be spoken in such clipped plumby 1940's Queens English, it was horrible to listen to....they sounded robotic. But over all a fab read looking forward to reading more from this author.

Enjoyable

Good book, kept me interested in listening to the following chapter.
Not sure I liked the ending though, found that a little disappointing
