I listened to Penelope Keith's brilliant performance of this book, enjoying the quirky characters and colourful scenes. A lovely tale of a beautiful woman and the man devoted to her that takes unexpected diversions. It made me smile and brought a tear to my eye. The rich voice of Penelope really added to the descriptive scenes and brought out the pathos and the humour. Then I read it for myself, savouring the magic again as I retraced the story. Wonderful.
