Summary

Mickey Haller gets the text, "Call me ASAP - 187," and the California penal code for murder immediately gets his attention. Murder cases have the highest stakes and the biggest paydays, and they always mean Haller has to be at the top of his game.

When Mickey learns that the victim was his own former client, a prostitute he thought he had rescued and put on the straight and narrow path, he knows he is on the hook for this one. He soon finds out that she was back in LA and back in the life. Far from saving her, Mickey may have been the one who put her in danger.

Haunted by the ghosts of his past, Mickey must work tirelessly and bring all his skill to bear on a case that could mean his ultimate redemption or proof of his ultimate guilt.

Enjoyable listen

Overall and enjoyable listen, felt a little bit of a drag at some points and the longest time it’s taken me to finish any of this series’. But overall another good book and worth the time. A tiny bit convoluted at points, but interesting enough

Good book with lots of nice twists but repetitive

Would you try another book written by Michael Connelly or narrated by Peter Giles?

Yes, I've listened to the previous four books in the Mickey Haller series.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Less obvious signposting of "the gods of guilt" all the way through the book

The end seemed rushed

What made the experience of listening to The Gods of Guilt the most enjoyable?

The narrator was good and I like the Lincoln Lawyer

Would you ever listen to anything by Michael Connelly again?

Yes

What about Peter Giles’s performance did you like?

An interesting voice to listen to and he managed to represent each character differently

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed it until near the end when it all just seemed too rushed as if we'd run out of impetus and just needed to finish

God of Guilt

What did you like most about The Gods of Guilt?

I love all Connelly. I suppose the fact that he was a journalist makes him get into the nitty gritty of LA, a city I know pretty well.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Gods of Guilt?

Not wishing to give anything away: the relationship between the hero and his daughter.

What about Peter Giles’s performance did you like?

Let's call it professional. I'm more for UK English VO artists as opposed to US,but in the context, he works well.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

See above re; daughter

Any additional comments?

One thing I find fairly random is the 'fortunate' discovery some books ago that the 2 heros of Connelly's books (Bosch and Haller) are half brothers.
