Summary

In 2006, Christianity Today voted The God Who Is There as one of the top 50 books that have shaped evangelicals.

For decades, The God Who Is There has been the landmark book that changed the way the church sees the world. In Francis Schaeffer's remarkable analysis, we learn where the clashing ideas about God, science, history, and art came from and where they are going. This edition includes a foreword by James W. Sire that places Schaeffer's seminal work in the context of the intellectual turbulence of the early 21st century.

More than ever, The God Who Is There demonstrates how historic Christianity can fearlessly confront the competing philosophies of the world. The God who has always been there continues to provide the anchor of truth and the power of love to meet the world's deepest problems.

The Relevant,Loving God

Crystal-clear solid bible-based, accurate and thourough expostulation about the God who IS , and the historical efficacy in comparison to the socialistic/humanistic/psychologic counterparts. I learned SO much, and had my faith strengthened and affirmed over and over. I found it best to read this in "bites", so that I could slowly digest and assimilate the material, which is EXTREMELY powerful. You may not agree totally, but you will see God clearer, and stand firmer in your faith in Him as never before.

Still relevant.... Maybe more than ever

Great read. A bit of background in philosophy and western civilization helpful. Reader is pretty robotic, so a new production by someone who is mentally engaged in the content would be great. Still, the reading didn't ruin it. You get used to it after a few hours.

Superb content with well done narration!

Schaeffer communicates deep concepts wonderfully well and the narrator delivers it splendidly. Immediately listened to it again a 2nd time at 1.5X speed to further solidify the depths that were plumbed.

So Satisfying

Schaeffer is not for the weak of mind or timid of spirit. His is a forceful, well-considered world view. He is honest and loving, full of integrity, and earnest in his convictions. I share his presuppositions, reasoning, and conclusions. I only wish I had trained myself as deeply as he and had his ability to convey True Truth as clearly. Schaeffer: always challenging, always worthwhile.

Schaeffer is the bomb.

Schaeffer nails cultural captivity to the wall in this evangelistic treatise. This book is not a formula, since no evangelistic formulae can exist due to the uniqueness of individual persons. Yet he adds several components which others have missed.

Brilliant

A must read for anyone serious about answering the hopelessness brought about by rationalism in the modern age; as relevant now as it was in the late 60's.

The Paper Trail

If you have been wondering how modern Evangelicalism ended up where it is today, look no further. Almost all the apostasy present in the present day is addressed here, in a book first published in the late 1960's.

A Cogent Response to Rational Materialism

Dr Schaeffer never disappoints. The arguments are made with crystal clarity. His concern about watering down our preaching of the entire world of God for the sake of fitting in with our current society ring more true today than when these words were written.

great book , not so great narrator

The content was terrific. Narrator was too choppy for my taste. I often found it difficult to follow the book's thought patterns because of the stilted delivery
