Summary
Brought to you by Penguin.
You live on a picturesque communal garden square, an oasis in urban London where your children run free, in and out of other people's houses.
You've known your neighbours for years, and you trust them. Implicitly.
You think your children are safe.
But are they really?
Midsummer night: a 13-year-old girl is found unconscious in a dark corner of the garden square. What really happened to her? And who is responsible?
Utterly believable characters, a gripping story and a dark secret buried at its core: this is Lisa Jewell at her heart-stopping best.

A good story but a slightly ‘meh’ ending
Liked the story and the character development. Really felt like I knew the families involved. It kept me interested throughout.
The ending was a bit lack-lustre though. I’m not a huge fan of when things feel left unresolved, but I can see why it was done that way.
Narration was really good!

Good but not one of her best
I enjoyed listening to this book, but I have enjoyed Lisa’s other books a lot more. The story was okay, the performances were sometimes a little bit off

A great read
Narration was spot on, characters were relatable and transported me as if I was actually there watching everything unfold. Wanted a different ending but you can't have it all!

All Mums Should Read This
Another Lisa Jewell mystery but in fact a story about real life. I loved meeting all the characters and seeing them interact. As a mum of girls I empathised with the anxiety and fears of Adele and Claire and completely understood how they would keep secrets for their children. Lisa Jewell you never let your readers down. I can’t wait to read your next novel.

Not Jewell’s best, but an easy listen.
Quite a short audio book in comparison to some of Lisa Jewell’s others. The characters were convincing and likeable and the plot was intriguing. Unfortunately lots of issues with the production side of things - you can hear when the narrator swallowed/noises of saliva in her mouth - this was quite off putting. I also found there were only minimal pauses between the chapters so the narrative seemed to dart from character to character and I really had to pay thorough attention. I was slightly disappointed with the ending, a bit of an anti climax.
To end on a positive, all in all an easy listen that kept me interested.

Ok but not her best
Didn’t have me on the edge of my seat like some of her other books

Too many unanswered questions
I feel like I need another 4 or 5 chapters to really answer a lot of the questions that have been left hanging in this book. Lots of back story for the characters but no concrete reasons for those back stories... I don't want to spoil it for anyone who might want to read this, but you'll know what I mean if you read/have read it.
From a production perspective, I found myself getting a bit muddled between which character perspective was being portrayed each time. I think it might have helped to either provide a longer pause between shifts in the 2 adult women character perspectives, or header them as "Adele" or "Claire". A few times I found myself thinking "Why on earth is Claire talking about homeschooling?" only to realise that a shift to Adele had occurred.
The narration was good and didn't irk me even with headphones on, which is pretty high praise from me (no awful gulping or spitting noises etc.)
I love Lisa Jewell as an author, but overall, this was just ok, and I probably wouldn't recommend it to anyone. It was a bit of a let down.

Good story
God story, the ending was a little weak. Not my favourite Lisa Jewel but worth a listen/ read.
