Summary

One of AudioFile Magazine's Best Audiobooks of 2016.

Amy Schumer narrates her own raucously funny memoir, a personal collection of stories about the American comedian before her meteoric rise to fame. Unflinchingly honest and tongue-in-cheek, this is a moving portrait with emotional resonance and genuine laugh-out-loud moments.

'2016 Best Audiobooks' selection, AudioFile Magazine.

The highly anticipated first audiobook from award-winning comedian, writer, producer and actress, Amy Schumer.

In The Girl With the Lower Back Tattoo, Amy shares stories about her family, her relationships, her career, good - and bad - sex, recounting the experiences that have shaped who she is today: from the riches to rags story of her childhood to her teenage quest for popularity (and boys) to becoming one of the most sought-after comedians on the planet and an outspoken advocate for women's rights.

Whether she's experiencing lust at first sight in the queue at the airport, discovering her boot camp instructor's secret bad habit, or candidly discussing her father's multiple sclerosis, Amy Schumer proves to be a fearless, original, and always entertaining storyteller. Her audiobook will move you, make you laugh, catch you completely off guard, and answer this burning question: is it okay for a 35 year-old woman to still sleep with her childhood teddy bears?

OK but not much really happens or happened.

i love Amy's comedy, raw, biting and chellenging. my presumption was that there must be a real backstory that moulded this talented woman. The book is OK, nothing very exciting or shocking, honest but uneventful. slightly lacking in style but as a novice author that is forgivable. its an easy listen but its bland rather than bold.

Great read!!

OMG, I was not expecting that! This is such an honest, authentic and funny book. So easy to read/listen and there is something about having an author read their own book. Amy is funny but in such a beautiful way. I truly enjoyed this book and it is so relatable in so many ways.

Highly recommend, you won't regret it.

At first i thought it was funny

At first, I thought this is one funny book with silly stories; then soon became to dislike it and found it painful listening to.

Amy reads the whole book in a monotone voice and I soon became to realise that nothing is her fault, throughout the book, everything that has happened is someone else's fault and she reveals her families secrets and stories of personal times.

For me, I wouldn't recommend, Kevin Harts book however is hilarious.

Very disappointing

Would you try another book written by Amy Schumer or narrated by Amy Schumer?

No

Has The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo put you off other books in this genre?

No

What aspect of Amy Schumer’s performance might you have changed?

The book needs changing rather than her performance which was ok

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment. I was a huge fan of Trainwreck and persuaded lots of friends to see it, but this must be the least funny book by a comic I've read. Maybe Amy's intention was not to be funny but if so the book's marlketing is at fault as is the jokey title - a pun on The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Amy makes some worthwhile points about the poor messages given to young girls by the media, about sexism on the standup circuit (and business generally) and about gun control. However overall the book is just dull and full of pointless lists - for example in a list of Things I Hate Amy lists the Big Bang Theory (the TV show not the theory but apparently can't be bothered to give us a reason for the hatred.

Any additional comments?

No

End already

had hoped this would actually be funny and interesting.. in the end I just got so tired of it, out of sheer pig headedness, I had to persevere to make it to the end of the book.. trite drivel..

Not Funny and WAAAAAY too serious

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

If this had been a 4 or 5 star book.

Has The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo put you off other books in this genre?

No i've read some great books from this genre. Amy Peohlers Yes Please, and Tina Fey's Bossy Pants being two of the best. This one was just bad, boring, rambling, hypocritical, serious and sad.

Who might you have cast as narrator instead of Amy Schumer?

She was as good as anyone for this book I suppose, though I found her serious and on the verge of tears moments especially grating.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment that the book didn't really meet expectations. Mild anger at some of the hypocritical nonsense spouted about aspects of sexual relationships between men and women. Uncomfortable with some of the stories. Sad far far too often for the autobiography of a comic.

Any additional comments?

Just bad - if you're looking for laughs, avoid.

Very good in-depth book

I really liked this book as it shows that many of the issues that are being highlighted more so today have been happening for years.

Amy's approach and detail provide the reader / listener with a feeling of "being there".

Amazing... Such a good giggle

Like making a new crazy hillarious friend. So honestly written, rare to see someone lay it all out in a sometimes sad and surprising manner. Always sandwiched between heart lol moments
. Looked forward to getting my daily hit if Amy while reading this. Sad it's finished.

She is better live

Most of this same out sad and dry to my ears. I did enjoy the stories and she makes some very fine points on growing up and making the normal human decisions that shape us into who we are.
