About this listen
Book one of the groundbreaking Decimation trilogy.
Fifteen years ago, the Orestes virus first emerged, sweeping across the globe and infecting every living person within a matter of days. Despite the best efforts of the scientific community, there is no treatment, no vaccine. It lies dormant until a woman gives birth. Then she dies.
Teenage wheelchair athlete Antimone Lessing can’t remember how she got pregnant. She thinks her life is over as the doctors prepare to deliver her baby. Meanwhile, a hunt is underway to arrest the man suspected of raping her, but even if the police catch him, it will be too late for Antimone.
When she unexpectedly survives, she becomes a vital clue in the race to develop a cure before the global population declines beyond the point of no return.
But survival comes at a price. As her doctors try to understand why she is still alive, she must choose between preserving humanity's future and protecting the life of her newborn child.
How far would you go to save the human race?

The narration
I stuck with this book because I was invested in the story which I liked. But I did have a couple of issues with the narration.
At various points during the book I was aware of the editing. Sentences seemed disjointed and I could hear the different tone when a section had been edited in .
The narrator actually had a nice voice but I was most put off with his … timing of…. THE….. words. His dyNAMics seemed……. Very jarring with the emPHAsis on… words. Odd

Good yarn, spoilt by poor narration
I enjoyed this story as am in post pandemic mood, however the narration spoilt it with very strange pauses and emphasis.

terrible listen
this story sounds great, really interesting idea, BUT the narration is just awful, the worst I have ever heard, a primary school kid could do better. it is totally unlistenable. The narrator put emphasis on odd words and the story does not flow. I cannot listen, it is truly bad. I am sending back for a refund and will buy the kindle version. I never send books back so this shows how bad it is. I persevered for a couple of chapters but it does not get better. Do not buy on audible. Sorry author you need to get a new narrator.
