About this listen

Twenty-five years ago, a local girl went missing. Now, another girl comes back…

When five-year-old Elsie Button was snatched from a garden in a sleepy town on the Welsh island of Anglesey, and a local man later confessed, it sent shockwaves through the tight-knit community. How could one of their own do such a thing? Especially when his own little girl was the same age – and the victim's best friend.

Kathryn and her family left under the cloak of darkness one night, unable to bear the shame, and the anger of their neighbours. She hardly remembers that time. Now, she suffers the consequences of living under an assumed name, always looking over her shoulder. Her dad has not spoken a word to her since he went to prison. She is haunted by the question: why did he kill Elsie?

When another child is taken from the same garden, twenty-five years to the day of Elsie's murder, Kathryn is determined that this time she'll be on the right side. She'll join the search and atone for her father's deed, and maybe, just maybe, get the answers she wants. But she's not prepared for the long memory of the locals, nor the risks of going back. Not everyone on the island wants the truth to come out, and they'll go to extreme lengths to stop that from happening.

A gripping must-listen psychological thriller from the #1 bestselling author Jenny Blackhurst. Unmissable for fans of K. L. Slater, C. L. Taylor and S. E. Lynes.

A good story well read with a great twist at the end I didn’t see coming BUT to be really honest the whole ‘cause’ of the plot didn’t really make sense but without a complete spoiler I can’t say why here. It requires poetic licence and also a little bit more research in to ketamine (if I’m going to nit pick because it was irritating!)

Good twist

Loved this. Easy to listen to with great narration. Kept me guessing right to the end. Has made me think about many things as in ‘what would I have done’? Interesting characters. I’ll look for more from this author and narrator.

Great story very well read

Absolutely brilliant!

Every part of this had me fully engaged, I loved it. There was a very clever dry humour, in and amongst the unfolding events and that to me is skilful writing. I could entirely visualise each character, and it was set out in such a way as to be not confusing - which is a positive for me, as too often this genre can be convoluted, and unnecessary in its text. I think also that the narrator had the pitch exactly right. I'd listen to this again 👏🏽👏🏽

Excellent

I’m new to the authors books but I’m glad I discovered them by browsing the plus catalogue. It took only one book to make me a fan and each book more I was getting more hooked. The stories are great in their plots and characters and what seems so obvious at times gets put on its head a few times. There is suspense and mystery in all twists and turns and no way to miss anything happening or you miss the plot. Well worth to be added to my TBR list and I hope there will be more.

The combination of a topic that always causes an emotional response in people mixed with a range of interesting characters, secrets and a startling twist at the end, makes a great book!
