About this listen

It's 1641, and when Midori Kumashiro, the orphaned daughter of a warlord, is told she has to leave Japan or die, she has no choice but to flee to England. Captain Nico Noordholt’s ship is her last chance, but he doesn’t really want a female passenger, especially a beautiful one. During their journey, Nico and Midori form a tentative bond, but they both have secrets that can change everything.

This is the second time I’ve listened to this book.
Great tale of a beautiful love story between Niko and Midori.
Very enjoyable

Cracking take

I really enjoyed the second instalment of this trilogy. It was particularly interesting since I live in South West of England. As always I enjoyed the Japanese side of the story. Looking forward to the third book.

Great follow up

I liked all of it, only sorry there isn’t another book in this great series

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I would cut out a massive chunk out of the second half of the book. It was dull, boring, and could have ended much quicker.

Has The Gilded Fan put you off other books in this genre?

The only thing that kept this going was the fluffy romance of it, so for that reason, I was able to actually finish it. It does deliver on the romance.

Who might you have cast as narrator instead of Julia Franklin?

Someone who uses different voices for different characters. I got confused sometimes as to who was talking. But other than that, she was okay.

Did The Gilded Fan inspire you to do anything?

Not read anything by this author again.

Any additional comments?

Read like a bad fanfiction written in a day.

Disappointing
