Summary
A special edition of The Gift of Fear, with a new foreword by the author.
A stranger in a deserted parking lot offers to help carry a woman's groceries. Is he a good Samaritan, or is he after something else? A fired employee says "You'll be sorry". Will he return with a gun? After their first date, a man tells a woman it is their "destiny" to be married. What will he do when she won't see him again? A mother has an uneasy feeling about the nice babysitter she's just hired. Should she not go to work today?
These days, no one in America feels immune to violence. But now, in this extraordinary, groundbreaking book, the nation's leading expert on predicting violent behavior unlocks the puzzle of human violence and shows that, like every creature on earth, we have within us the ability to predict the harm others might do us and get out of its way. Contrary to popular myth, human violence almost always has a discernible motive and is preceded by clear warning signs.
Through dozens of compelling examples from his own career, Gavin de Becker teaches us how to read the signs, using our most basic but often most discounted survival skill - our intuition. The Gift of Fear is a remarkable, unique combination of practical guidance on leading a safer life and profound insight into human behavior.

Must read for women, Security Practitioners, and HR reps.
This book is quite possibly the best book I've had the pleasure of consuming. The insights on intuition, perseverance, anxiety, and fear are exceptional. I highly recommend this book and will most likely listen again.

Every woman should read this book
Oprah Winfrey interviewed Gavin de Becker once and when she read the book she apparently said every woman should read this book and I completely agree. We all have the ability to notice things if we only slowed down a little to let our consciousness catch up and then some of the things we feel are off would become clearer and we could take positive action and hopefully experience less of the nastiness that is out there. Sometimes listing to yourself right when you first meet someone can be the imm end to what otherwise turns out to be an abusive relationship.

Excellent
Cannot recommend highly enough, informative, well presented, engaging anecdotes and examples. Not just for women, an insightful study into the nature and function of fear.

So many 'wow' moments. Gavin is a legend.
A brilliant explanation of our violent traits and where they ultimately come from. A must read for women in spotting the difference between a friendly stranger and predator.

Great listen and read
I have the physical copy of the book, but found it so helpful to listen as well- the narration being done by the author was also a stroke of genius since he was able to give updates as he went along.

Trust Your Intuition
I found this book helpful in understanding how important intuition can be, especially in situations of danger.
The book contains a good balance of tools, theory, and examples to get the message through. There are for instance plenty of examples that makes it clear that we have a tendency to dismiss what our gut instinct know to be true. I found a lot of these examples fascinating and eye opening. They show that we need to be in touch with our emotions, rather than just the rational side of our brain.
I found the first and the latter chapter most enlightening and interesting. Somewhere in the details of work related violence and other examples that I mainly find relevant for the U.S., I lost some of my enthusiasm for the book but it picked up again at the end, so if you loose interest somewhere in the book keep going or just skip a chapter or three.

The Book for everyone
I found this fascinating. And the first audio book I’ve listened to in its entirety. I’m getting the print book as I want to have it with me to refer to.
I found the subject so interesting but more than that and unexpectedly I found this essential as a mother. I’ll be keeping all of this in mind as I raise my daughter.
