Beautifully written, utterly immersive and completely thrilling. A surefire hit.
A unique take on the true crime topic, with an engrossing mystery in the past.

I didn’t like the central character. She seemed to make too much of a turbulent but not abusive childhood. I liked the plot idea but the twist was fairly easy to guess.

Started well but became a bit irritating

I love a twisty thrilling story about family secrets and drama. However, the twists in this one didn't really hit. It was more of a sad story about people who were too young to understand the consequences of their actions and couldn't trust any of the adults around. A different kind of coming-of-age story, where some characters might not get the chance to become adults, and the ones who do, have to live with the regret and hurt all their lives.
Actually surpassed all of my expectations in the best way.

Obvious twists, captivating story line

This was competently written but I didn't vibe with it. I didn't find a 50 year old murder mystery to be very engaging and struggled to care about the characters involved. I don't love dual timelines anyway and this has the worst aspects of those sort of novels. I will say that the story swerved away from some obvious clichés and that was good. Ultimately felt contrived and lacked tension. Not quite bad enough for 2 stars though.

Not very exciting
