About this listen

It's a blindingly hot summer. International visitors surge into Sydney's Darling Harbour. Two-year-old Tommy is sailing his toy boat in the park there with his mother Phoebe. Tommy vanishes into thin air. The following winter, taunting notes written as nursery rhymes begin arriving at his parents' home.

Little Boy Blue, where did you go? Who led you away? Only I know...

The police believe the messages are just a cruel prank. But Phoebe becomes obsessed with tracking down the writer of the rhymes. Her marriage ends up shattering.

When the shocking identity of the writer is discovered, Phoebe's desperate race for the truth has only just begun.

I’m really enjoying Anni Taylor as a writer. Some reviewers complain that her books are too long and that she could get to the point in half the time but I enjoy the narrative she weaves and the character development. All of the main characters are fully realised and are firmly plotted within the geographical landscape of the book. It makes her stories very immersive. Yes they can often be a little far fetched but they’re a good form of escapism. Looking forward to reading more.

The narration was lovely, and the subtle changes in voice for each character was small but really effective.

Overall a great mystery that keeps you guessing. I annoy myself by guessing ending too quickly or solving cases half way through a book, but this one has me stumped until the final few chapters!

Overall a good listen with some unexpected turns
