About this listen

1943: the world is at war, and the villagers of Tyneham are being asked to make one more sacrifice: to give their homes over to the British army. But on the eve of their departure, a terrible act will cause three of them to disappear forever.

2018: Melissa had hoped a break on the coast of Dorset would rekindle her stagnant relationship, but despite the idyllic scenery, it’s pushing her and Liam to the brink. When Melissa discovers a strange photograph of a woman who had once lived in the forgotten local village of Tyneham, she becomes determined to find out more about her story. But Tyneham hides a terrible secret, and Melissa’s search for the truth will change her life in ways she never imagined possible.

A story that promises intrigue but in reality was was very obvious. That said it was a good listen and easy to pick up; I liked the intertwining with the past. I would have liked a bit more depth but I enjoyed listening.

A sweet story

Beautifully read and as Tyneham is my favourite place in the whole of Dorset I was really looking forward to this book.
Good story but I just wished it could have been a bit more accurate when describing the landscape and area. I know it’s fictional but I’d read the author’s book on Guernsey, another of my favourite places and thought that was pretty accurate.

The narrator was excellent. As was the story, which kept you guessing to the end. Towards the end, I shouted Nooooo a lot as it switched between past and present, keeping you hanging in each time. Very exciting!

A brilliant listen.

I went to that village last year, it was wondertul to read a story that was weaved around it and in fiction what happened, it make me think was it fiction? Yes the story was that good.

This story had me glued to it.

I really enjoyed this story. I became part of not just one love story, but two, as the story spanned two time zones, weaving intrigue and fun, excitement and sadness. The book was recommended to me and I thoroughly recommend it to anyone who enjoys romantic fiction. Thank you Lorna for sharing this delighted tale made even more enjoyable by Beth's excellent reading of the book.

An interesting twist on a love story.
