Summary

Queenie Bonner is only two when she is taken from her large family in the slums to a big house in the country. Frightened and confused, she yearns for her nine brothers and sisters, especially her favourite brother, Harry. Albert and Mary Warrender rename her Eleanor, bringing her up as their own, and as time passes, Ellie forgets about her other family.

But 15 years later, when Mary dies, Albert tells her the truth about her background, and she is determined to trace her forgotten family. The search holds pleasure, distress, and even danger as she traces her eight siblings, but one remains missing: Harry. And she knows she will never rest until he is found.

The Forgotten Family by Beryl Matthews

A fairly predictable plot. An uncomplicated writing style. A single story that unfolds chronologically; no intertwining of plots so very easy to follow. It must be difficult to perfect a child's voice when reading so I wouldn't criticise this reader's interpretation! Some glimpses of the blindingly obvious such as '3 of her siblings were girls; the rest were boys' ........ well what else would they be? But I enjoyed this effortless listen as I travelled to work on the bus and did jobs around the house and garden and will read more by Beryl Mattthews.

Fantastic!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The only way to describe it is a FANTASTIC book and I would recommend it to anyone! Lovely storyline, lovely characters, I was able to let my imagination paint such wonderful pictures, also great narration by Annie Aldington as usual, and all round fab read/listen!. Very easy to follow! Only problem is that I didn't want to stop listening to it.. :)

Wonderful

It's such a lovely story. It kept me engaged from beginning to end! There were also some surprises along the way which I love in a book.

Lovely!

What a lovely book that was.
The story was good but needed to have something else, for example, it wasn't moving or
poignant or haunting or their was no suspense in it in my
opinion, just lovely to listen to
but I found that I wanted it to finish. It was obvious Harry changed his name. But still a
nice book to listen to if you are listening to it whilst doing something else and not on its own.
