Summary

Lady Henrietta has been in love with her neighbour since she was eight years old, and always known they were fated to be together. Unfortunately for her, Lord Cottingham seems oblivious to the fact they were made for each other.

When Henrietta is forced to acknowledge that Cottingham thinks of her as nothing more than a friend, she is determined to make him realise just what a diamond he has let slip through his fingers by making the ton fall in love with her instead.

When James Douglas, Lord Cottingham, returned home from a year in Montreal he expected life to be exactly as he left it. Unfortunately his best friend, Lady Henrietta, seems to have got a bee in her bonnet over his never replying to her letters, and suddenly he finds himself fighting for her time and attention not only with the best and the brightest of the ton, but with the handsome and roguish Duke of Devenish, who seems to be very taken with Henrietta.

As the two friends battle with their feelings for each other and the ton seeks to meddle at every turn, Henrietta must decide if there are better men out there than the boy she grew up with, and James must uncover the truth of his own heart before he loses something he loves forever.

The Foolish Friend can be enjoyed as a stand-alone novel or as part of the Regency Romps series.

Another exceptional classic romance

These stories have been such a delight to listen to. They are fun, refreshing and romance in its most classic form. I adore the storyline and the incredibly charming characters. I just can't get enough!

Julia is such a wonderful narrator. I love her voice, her accent, her charm and the character she brings to these stories. She really makes these something special.

The Foolish Friend

I really enjoyed this regency romance. Even though Lady Henri has loved James for years, he was to foolish to see what was right there in front of him... Now when there are other men in the picture, is it to late?

The Regency Romps Series by Elizabeth Bramwell is very entertaining. This is book 2 in the series, but it definitely stands on its own.

Once again, Julia Eve delivered a great performance.

Funny, entertaining and romantic...:)

I liked the first book in the series quite a lot, I like the second even better:)

It's a sweet romance with a plot that develops smoothly and at a good pace, with quite a few nice twists on the way to the happily ever after, sparkles of humour here and there and characters that feel real and relatable, even though they are lords and ladies and I'm not:) I would still like to befriend most of them. The three main characters - Lady Henrietta, Lord Cottingham and the Duke of Devenish - are very well written, full of life and wit, and you do keep your fingers crossed for them:)

Narration by Ms Eve is quite good; I kind of got used to the way she reads after book 1 in the series, though I still think it's a little too slow. The voices are well done and most (when sped up:)) sound natural. I also generally like the way she reads dialogues - there's no problem with recognizing who is who.

Overall it's a sweet humorous historical romance that you'll enjoy a lot:)

Delightful Story -- Fun, Witty and Engaging!

James Douglas, the 4th Baron of Cottingham has been away in Montreal tending to family business. His friend Henrietta Cartwright has faithfully written to him all the time he was gone, but he never responded to her letters. Henrietta has been in love with James forever, and has taken to wearing white and acting bored and insipid to please James and the rest of the Ton. It is evident to her that since James never admits to reading her letters, and he didn’t respond back, that he is not in love with her. In fact, James tells her it is high time for her to take the business of finding a husband seriously.

Henrietta decides to change her dress and behavior to help her find a husband – she will not settle for anything less than love. Her cousin Emma Loughcroft has a plan to make her “all the crack” and have the menfolk of London bowing to her knees in worship; for this task Emma has engaged the help of the Duke of Devenish, or the Devilish Duke (swoon). Thus, the romp begins, and whose heart will be broken at the end?

I love Elizabeth Bramwell’s characters and plots; I have read all her books, and they are all delightful. Her dialogue is fun and witty, and she always entertains! She keeps it clean, and the focus is on character development, and she creates a cast of engaging characters that one grows to love, and you will grow to love Henrietta, James, and the Devilish Duke. Just a warning, you may not be happy with the choices Henrietta makes!

Julia Eve made this a pleasant read; her voice is very pleasant to listen to and her transitions to characters is smooth.

I was given an audio book from the author; my opinions and thoughts are my own.

He truly is a fool

Henry is a smart girl to try to move on from James. How could he not write her back or at least let her know he read her letters. He is not the sharpest tool in the shed.🤦🏽‍♀️ I was kind of hopping she would married the devil! 😉
All and all a sweet and funny story. This is a very clean romance so if your looking for a dirty regency romance this is not for you. However, if your looking for a sweet romance this is the one!
Good narration.
Also, I didn’t read the first book and I don’t feel like I’m missing out on anything. However, I will be grabbing the other books in this series.

Typical Male!

Henrietta and James have been friends since she was 8 years old and she has been in love with him from that tender age but he only thinks of her as a friend.
On his return from Montreal, years later, he finds that he is in fact jealous of the males taking interest in his friend but denies his love for her until he can't any longer.
Oh, what a pair of mixed up, silly characters they are. They will delight you with their antics and banter. I will admit that couple of times I wanted to give them both a good shake but in the end they came to their senses and acknowledged their love for each other.
Julia Eve has lent her interesting voices to the narration of this story and helped bring the story to life.
I requested and listened to the audiobook version and my voluntary review above is unbiased.

Sweet Regency Romance with Spunky Heroine

The Foolish Friend is a sweet Regency short story with a plucky almost “on the shelf” heroine and a clueless handsome aristocrat. The story begins when James Douglas, Lord Cottingham returns home after spending a year with his brother in Montreal, Canada. When he returns, his 20-year old admiring neighbor, Lady Henrietta (“Henry”), basically gives him the cold shoulder because he failed to answer even one of the many letters that she mailed to him while he was abroad. Henry has secretly loved James for a dozen years, but he is clueless about her feelings and even more clueless concerning his own feelings toward her. Thankfully her cousin is owed a favor by a Devilsh Duke and they devise a scheme whereby James will think the Duke is falling for Henry, thus making James jealous - and hopefully - realizing what a gem she is.

I listened to the audio version of this story narrated by Julia Eve, which runs more than 4 1/2 hours long. Her narration was very enjoyable and she really bought the characters to life, using a variety of distinct voices. After listening to this audio, I’m looking forward to listening to the Devilish Duke’s story, as well as other books in The Regency Romps Series!

Not as good as the first - but still GOOD

I only enjoyed the first in this series because I liked the characters a little more, but if you like books like 'Pride and Prejudice', this is right up your alley!
What a delightful story and brilliantly likeable and fully developed characters.
The writing is so descriptive that its easy to imagine life back in this time period!
