Summary

Create a health span that matches your life span!

Most of us believe that aging is accompanied by a sharp decline in our physical and mental abilities.

This program presents the new science of staying healthy - otherwise known as ultraprevention. This powerful medicine of the future shatters the myths of today's "fix-the-broken-parts" medicine. Instead of masking symptoms, it's a proven plan for identifying and eliminating the forces that cause more than 90 percent of today's most common and devastating diseases. It's a patient-centered plan that shows you how to create a lifetime of good health.

In The Five Forces of Wellness: The Ultraprevention System for Living an Active, Age-Defying, Disease-Free Life, you'll learn what's best for your body. Among other things, you'll determine...

  • How to prevent disease from ravaging your body, using the medically proven "remove, repair, and recharge" system.
  • Which foods make you thrive and which make you sick.
  • How you can decrease the activity of the genes that will create illness and increase the activity of the genes that will create wellness.
  • Why you should never go on a diet and how to lose weight without going on a diet.
  • What kinds of vitamins you need and how much.
  • Whether your body does better with vigorous exercise or more gentle exercise.
  • How to identify and rid yourself of toxins that make you sick.

PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying reference material will be available in your My Library section along with the audio.

Ten Stars

If you could sum up The Five Forces of Wellness in three words, what would they be?

Dr. Hyman knocks it out of the park AGAIN. He continues to tell us how to be well, how to heal our diseases and exposes Big Pharma and Big Food to us "simple folk." I have read and participated in the 10 Day Detox program and have been healed of a multitude of issues and lost weight. This program goes into greater detail explaining why we are sick, and the effects of toxins, chemicals and poisons in our systems. He is the new science, the new medicine and the new doctor, and, truthfully, there is nothing "new" here in terms of what we should eat - organic, pesticide free, whole foods that our Creator gave us, what our grandparents grew in their farms and ate. Have a listen - apply it - and watch what happens.

What other book might you compare The Five Forces of Wellness to and why?

Def. Worth A Read ! Even if you are healthy...

Would you listen to The Five Forces of Wellness again? Why?

Yes. I will most likely listen to it again... so I can go back, make notes and write some stuff down. Has a lot of good information.

What other book might you compare The Five Forces of Wellness to and why?

Dunno.

Which character – as performed by Mark Hyman – was your favorite?

I'm pretty sure Mark Hyman himself was speaking. That is what drew me to this book, compared to all the other audibles I thought, " This man sounds really sincere". and I looked him up on Youtube. After watching a 5 min video of him I decided I want this book. He is a very popular and likeable Functional Medicine Doctor. All doctors can learn a thing or 2 from this man!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

All of it ! From start to finish. When he talked about his personal story w/ mercury and fatigue issues, it really makes him more likeable and relatable. It also put me in the mind set of some doctors. Why they think and act the way they do, why they treat symptoms and care nothing about the cause and the way the entire body works as a whole. Why they cover up symptoms and force pills down our throats. Because I have systemic candida and I get passed around from doctor to doctor and they always tell me nothing is wrong. Like are you kidding me?! Something is def wrong. So he explained why they think the way they do, and what we can do to help ourselves and really take control of our lives. Not just diet but he talks about chemicals, toxins, tests we can take, what to eat, what herbs and supplements to take, oxidative stress , mercury toxicity , common complaints people go to the doctor with he see's things in a different light. He believes that we should go to the doctor before we are sick, not when we are sick. So he is big on preventative measure. He talks about so much more, he is just a wealth of information.

Any additional comments?

I suffer from Candida and can't eat anything. I can only eat meat and some veggies. My family thinks I'm crazy .. and its so hard to sit around and watch them eat whatever the want( which is mainly junk) . But for the first time ever I finally understand that it is THEY who are the crazy and weird ones. I am doing whats right for my body! Our bodies werent made to eat refined sugars and white flour, processed stuff, our ancestors never ate the stuff we eat which is why most americans have leaky gut and die. He backs up his research with a lot of studies. I def reccomend listening to this. I'm going to have my boyfriend and my parents listen to this!

Just listening to this has given me some hope for myself, that there are some good doctors out there! I just need to find them!

Very easy to understand.! INFORMATIVE, VERY GOOD!

I thought this book was informative and basic enough that everyone can understand. he repeated some key things several times as it applied in a lot of chapters and that helps with remembering everything! I took lots of notes!

Hope for our future

It had a long introduction laying the groundwork. I did find the information interesting about how certain foods turns on and off different genes in our body. Realized more how disease is really caused by inflammation in our bodies from food intolerances and toxins.

Great source of info

Loved this audio book. it seems to be the source document for many of Dr. Hyman's Ultra books. Although the book is a bit dated, I think that it was before it's time. Many of the concepts are Functional Medicine principles before they became as popular as they are now.

So glad I listen this book.

My doctor recently told me my liver was fatty due to my sugar/carb filled diet. She recommended me to read Dr. Hyman's book because as she put it, " He will explain it better than I can". The wellness plan she has me on is exactly what Dr. Hyman recommends. I've been on the plan for 2 weeks now and I already feel so much better.

I highly recommend this book for anyone who want to move away from old western medicine. Food is medicine.
