Summary

A new novel from this master storyteller - In a gentle village on the Scottish borders, Roland Fox, a young aspiring writer, moves in next door to the equally young and attractive Jane Highsmith, a newly qualified veterinary surgeon. But the growing attraction between them is muted by the recent and mysterious death of her beloved great-grandfather. There are all the ingredients present for a traditional village mystery in true Gerald Hammond style and with his usual Scottish flavour.

lovely easy listening

This is something quite different and most enjoyable. I have only recently found this author through the plus catalogue and although his style takes a little getting used to it is well worth keeping going.

good crime story.

Any additional comments?

Ii liked roland and jane, the main characters in this murder story. jane is convinced her great-grandfather had been murdered and roland agreed to help her find the truth.
there is a little romance but its mainly about finding out how the murder was done, who did it and why.
its a complete story, not part of a series, which is what I wanted. can recommend it if that is what you are looking for.
gavin Osborn did the accents, didn't try to do a female voice and still brought the story to life.

Wonderful book.

I love the narrator of these books, he has a lovely soft Scottish accent. The stories Gerald Hammond are always very different & unique.
