I loved this book, from start to finish it is exciting, funny and strangely touching (I cried over a house plant). The narrator is one of, if not the best female narrator I've ever heard. And the fact that she was a final girl made it even better!

I recognise that this may just be an issue for me and not the general, wider listening audience. I am a huge horror fan. Slasher movies were my favourite sub genre growing up. So this book is right up my alley. But I found myself constantly distracted by all the references to the big franchises. Each character is named after an actress who was a final girl. Every ‘massacre’ title was a slight play on their movie franchise. Situations played out almost entirely how they do in respective movies. Character names are pulled verbatim (Dwight Riley, Judy Hicks…). After a while, everytime time one came up, it just pulled me from the otherwise incredibly fun premise and fast paced thriller.

An interesting story, some parts I thought would have been clearer/made more sense in the written format, I didn’t really like any of the characters and I think I got a little lost in the middle of the story somewhere. But it was different and interesting and did make me think about personal safety and the depiction of women in violence. Definitely worth a listen.

Felt like how much fantasy and how much realism it relied on was muddy. aka Dream King compared to Ghost. Narrator sometimes talks through teeth

Didn't call the end twist

I am not far into this, but while I'm hugely enjoying the story the narrator IS kind of slow. As someone else has pointed out, go to playback speed and raise it by one point. it DOES help.
