Summary

Hermes Diaktoros returns in the seventh gripping, sun-drenched instalment of The Mysteries of the Greek Detective.

The olive harvest is drawing to a close in the town of Dendra, and when Hermes Diaktoros arrives for the celebratory festival he expects an indulgent day of food and wine. But as young men leap a blazing bonfire in feats of daring, one of them is badly burned. Did he fall? Or was he pushed? Then, as Hermes learns of a deep-running feud between two families, one of their patriarchs dies. Determined to find out why, Hermes follows a bitter trail through the olive groves to reveal a motive for murder, and uncovers a dark deed brought to light by the sin of gluttony.

Comes with just a hint of something different

I found that this tale of our 'Fat Man' was just subtly different from the other tales in the series - perhaps because we meet Hermes' half brother. Whatever the slight change was I think that helped to maintain interest in what is now quite a long series of books. Anyone who has enjoyed the previous stories will not find this a disappointment, it is another leisurely and pleasant listen knowing that our Fat Man will tie up all the loose ends and ensure that justice takes place. It may be a well worn scenario now, but it still works.

totally held my attention

Anne Zouroudi has a great gift for completely holding my attention...this is the 3rd of her "fat man" detective books I've listened to and I think the best so far....her description of people and events and the landscape readily take me to where it's all happening. I came across Anne Zouroudi only when I saw the narrator was the excellent Sean Barrett and I'm so glad I did. 5 stars across the board. Would highly recommend
