Ji-won's life is in disarray. Her father's affair has ripped the family to shreds, leaving her to piece their crappy lives back together.

Then her mother's new white boyfriend enters the scene, bragging about his knowledge of Korean culture. As he swaggers around their claustrophobic apartment ogling her teenage sister, Ji-won's grip on reality begins to slip.

Critic reviews

I was enticed from the first line (Oyinkan Braithwaite, author of My Sister, the Serial Killer)
An outstanding debut... Violent, smart, gruesome and wildly original
Darkly funny (Fern Brady, author of Strong Female Character)
Visceral, disgusting, glorious. I love this book and every character in it. Monika Kim's sentences are superb, and I was riveted and nauseated from the very first page (CJ Leede, author of Maeve Fly)
An inventive, terrifying tale of misogyny, Asian fetishisation, and cannibalism
Obsessive, grotesque and never predictable, this is a horror debut to sink your teeth into (Emily M. Danforth, author of The Miseducation of Cameron Post)
Smartly written...A fun and nasty debut with real edge to it. A promising calling card from a writer to watch
Utterly fantastic, female revenge horror at its finest. Perfect for readers of Tender is the Flesh
Monika Kim has written a novel that every library needs to own
A new voice in horror... Gripping
Incredibly readable... Kim has delivered an entertaining and gruesome romp on female rage

I was drawn in almost immediately and loved the power given to the main character, especially as she was a teenager! Her quick mind and dark thoughts made the connection to Ji-won build throughout the story! Loved the ending!!!

Unfortunately this wasn't for me. Im a bug horror fan and enjoy Asian literature but for me this didn't tick any of my boxes. I think this is probably aimed at a younger audience then me and felt more YA then adult. The characters are thin and the progression of the story is painful. Yes George is a disgusting character but he's so unbekieve than anybody would jot realise he is awful. It's like a angry teens fever dream of what men are like. Don't even get me started on Jeffery.

The title might be the best part
