About this listen

On the brink of a breakdown, two years after the death of his fiancée, Jim Hawkes quits his high-powered job in the city to rent a cottage in the Devonshire countryside seeking some well-needed rest. But Slyford St. James is far from the peaceful haven Jim was hoping for.

Almost immediately, he is plagued by strange occurrences: a combination lock that won’t open, loud noises in the attic, the figure of a little girl always just out of sight. His new village friends, Jed and Emma, are convinced Jim has found his way to the village for a reason, to solve the mystery surrounding the suspicious death of a child. But as Jim is haunted by the ghosts of his past and endangered by a real-world threat in the present, it soon becomes apparent that true evil never dies.

I liked it all apart from the singing child it was too creepy. I appreciate it had to be in there.

Excellent story can’t wait to listen to the next one.

An enjoyable meeting of ghost whisperer meets midsomer murders that kept me guessing until near the end where it came down to how the author finished it. now the marking is down due to the the narrator (which was brilliant on the male voices) and the female parts. at one point felt like a month python esq take on a female sound which almost raised a laugh.

spooky village whodunnit

Brilliant story really enjoyed it but and it’s a big but, the narrator is good right up to the point of portraying a female character then it becomes slightly annoying, not enough to make you turn off but his trouble with the girlfriends voice is most noticeable. Hoping the next book has a different narrator or at least a noticeable improvement.

Female character’s need work

I don't ever write reviews but as an watercolour artist listen to audible books constantly. I was hooked from beginning to end.
