Story
Nestled on the Oregon coast is a small town of rocky beaches and rugged charm. Locals love the land’s unspoiled beauty. Developers see it as a potential gold mine. When newcomer Hank Cooper learns he’s been left an old friend’s entire beachfront property, he finds himself with a community’s destiny in his hands. Cooper has never been a man to settle in one place, and Thunder Point was supposed to be just another quick stop. But Cooper finds himself getting involved with the town. And with Sarah Dupre, a woman as complicated as she is beautiful.
Summary
Anne Gifford's dowry - or lack thereof - is of no concern to Sir Dylan DeFrayne. Wrapped in each other's arms, what more could they possibly need? Yet the young lovers' passion can never be sanctioned - the DeFraynes and Giffords have been sworn enemies for decades. Lest more blood be shed, the two must keep their affair a secret…and plot their elopement. Clad in threadbare hand-me-downs, Anne never expects the powerful and aged Brennan Forbes to remember her face, let alone propose marriage. Anne's parents hastily accept - the union aligns the Giffords with the Duke of York, while the DeFraynes pledge allegiance to the House of Lancaster, on the eve of the War of Roses.
The arranged marriage looming ever closer, Dylan must brave the battlefield and bypass enemy lines to rescue his beloved. With a dynastic war and bitter rivalries standing in their way, Anne and Dylan must embark on a tortuous path that only the strongest of loves can endure.

This is not the same Robyn Carr
I hate to think that Audible has added these old Robyn Carr books in order to take advantage of her popular Virgin River novels and her loyal fans from that series. Don't be fooled. These are early works of this author and not her element. The best I can say to describe this book would be young adult but the sex eliminates that possibility. The language doesn't work. Ms. Carr needs to stay in her element of modern day.

WONDERFUL IN-DEPTH STORY!!!
I love the characters in this wonderful novel. Robyn Carr never ceases to amaze me with her writing ability. She is so good at building her characters and relationships. Nicola Barber was a great choice of narrators. She differentiates the voices of the characters which makes this an easy listen. Nothing will ever be better than the Virgin River series but this is a great stand alone novel with a wonderful ending.

Troubling Listen...Good and Bad
I am almost at a loss to figure out how I feel about this book. The beginning is extremely slow and it drug on and I felt like for sure I was going to dislike this book. The book has an interesting element of the War of the Roses history in it which I enjoyed...but I had trouble wrapping my arms around the actual romantic part of the story. I don't feel like the romance was developed enough and the characters were developed enough for me to really care about them in the beginning of the book it took quite a long time for me to even care what happened to anybody in the book.
I began to get interested about halfway to three quarters of the way through the book. While it held my interest it wasn't one of those books that I just didn't want to put down I mean I was almost listening because I just had to find out what happened in the end. The book is too long in my opinion and there's a lot of stuff that could be eliminated. It's definitely not one of Robyn Carr's best. I wish that this same story could be written over and maybe (I hate to say a better job done) of writing it because I'm no writer myself and never would claim to be but I just feel like if Carr was at her best when she wrote this particular book it would have been a much better listen. Overall it just seems like it was written before Carr had honed her skills and perfected her craft!
I spent 14 hours listening to what seemed like the Cliffs Notes of a story.
So question is it creditworthy....... I don't know. I believe it's worthy if its on sale but at the same time the listener have to have a lot of patience. This book was just frustratingly bad at times and then there were times where I was very interested so I just don't know what to tell you!
Narration was great....Romantic rating is a very weak PG-13....and there was very little romance.
